Is A Xr6T Ute Good For Me? Ground Clearance, Dirt Bike

Gday everyone, I have been doing some serious car searching as of late...and now I am contemplating if a XR6 Turbo ute is the car for me.

Main reason I am looking at a ute, is because I ride dirt bikes. Id imagine I can just throw it up the back and head off.

Though a few questions about the XR6 Turbo...these would be in comparassion to my current car, VT v6.

* Hows the fuel economy?

* Hows the ride height? (Main reason im selling the commodore....can't be bothered scraping my bar everywhere and lookin like a twat)

* Would it be ok for some rough roads? (Some riding area's are pretty rutted up)

* Hows the maintence up keep on a turbo'd car?

Coming off my P Plates in december, I am seriously considering a car like the xr6 turbo ute, though I am just worried about ground clearance. (Was looking at 4x4's, but to slow, no style and not really my thing)

Hope you fellas can help me out in finding a vechile that will be my daily and allow me to take the bike anywhere I need to go!

Can you get adjustable shocks that can increase ride height? (rough price costs?)

I have a fg f6 I mostly ride mx with the bikes on back and gear it gets to all the mx tracks fine. fuel econmy on the highway is still in the 10l per hundred k to. no ute is going to be better then a falcon. except 4x4. if u keep ya services up and dont go nuts on power they are as reliably as any other car

Where do you ride?

Ive got an AU ute on superlows. Its turbo and its not bad for most tracks I ride at because its usually smooth roads to the unloading areas. 95% of the time we take my ute cos its comfy.

But when we go camping its a pita cos my mates like to find good spots which are a bit hard to get to so I usually throw the bike on a trailer behind a 4wd or on a mates bt50 4wd.

Ride height will be fine mate, stock these XR utes sit pretty high. has to over 150mm.

Fuel economy with a load isnt to bad, I average 13s with 300rwkw and usually over 200kg.

maintanance is the same as every car, service it and run it on good fuel, shouldnt give you any problems.

Ah.... beautiful !

Sounds like the car I want...

Any pointers on things to look out for when buying used? Any particular things to steer clear of?

I am always anal about maintence on the commodore, but ive always been a ford man at heart...so as far as looking after it goes I will cry if I get dirt on it :P

I generally go to Kinglake/Tallarook. Kinglake unloading area on extons road isn't bad last time I went, Late model camira handled it fine but I was going extremely slow. Went up about 3 weeks ago and there are big ruts on the road now, lucky we were in my mates adventura, but I already knew my commy would be scraping the front bar all the way...

Reference pic of my current ride in terms of the front bar.

And same goes here for camping, I don't think any sporty ute would handle camping spots well.

Is it possible to get adjustable suspension to increase/decrease ride height easily? Other then putting in bags...?

Buy a Falcon RTV ute, and fit a turbo motor. Best of both worlds.

I used to have a BA Marlin, which had XR6 suspension, and I work out in the bush

down a rough gravel/dirt road, and never had any issues.

If you take it easy in the rougher areas, it shouldnt be an issue.

Stock it should be fine, I go 2 bikes up on mine lowered by 40mm and dont have to many problems. But I dont have to deal with massive ruts, rear mud guards are the only ones that scrape occasionally.

Just be careful of where you go. I still take mine dirt bike riding but I gotta be careful. If I go anywhere rough or in lots of mud I get a lift with a mate with a 4x4.

My bike (Aprilia RXV 550) can roll right of the tail gate with out a ramp and the bash plate does'nt even make contact with it. The utes good to sleep in also with a hard lid and just a 3mx3m sun shade over it with the lid up.
