22/04/10 06:21 AM22/04/10 06:21 AM #1 Breaking newsThe NRL have stripped the Melbourne Storm of their 2007 and 2009 premierships, stripped all 3 recent minor premierships, cannot accrue any premiership points this season, and will also attract financial penalties totalling ~$1.8m for systematic breaches of the Salary Cap and running 2 sets of books.News Limited ( the owners of the Storm) support this decision. It would appear that the now departed to the ARU , Brian Waldron could now potentially face corporate and/or criminal charges.News Ltd have insinuated that "Waldron" is at the centre of the matterFor league fans this is farkin huge, the knock on effects could be massive. Betting, player negotiations, fans, on going financial viability and on it goes. Can the Storm survive as News are starting to distance themselves ?
22/04/10 06:50 AM22/04/10 06:50 AM #5 lol true, makes me glad I'm an AFL guy, except when I go visit my parents in Qld all I'm gunna hear is about us melbourne cheaters.
22/04/10 07:14 AM22/04/10 07:14 AM #6 That is big news in any league! I am sure Melbourne Storm will survive, the NRl cannot afford to lose the Victorian support. The NSW crowds are a pitiful joke at best. Who wants to go to a game with only 10000 spectators? Boooooriiiiiing. THe fact is that if Storm were to go under the NRl would do everything in their power to stop it from happening.People in NSW are so dumb, they would rather go to their teams pokie machine club and piss money away on a poker machine than go to a game and support their team in person. I am a Victorian living in NSW, sad I know, but temporary. The people here are so imbred about their state and their NRL it's quite funny actually. They still have a state of origin, NSW vs QLD, when there are players from all over the country playing and from NZ. How do you only play NSW or QLD? That is why the AFL has trampled all over the NRL, they had business smart people at the top promoting and expanding the game across Australia, now it is everywhere but NT and Tassie. NRL seems to have retarded ex players in the halls of management, who have had a few too may hits to the head in their day to understand it takes more than a business suit and a memory of the good old days to promote the game. Soccer is all over Australia, NRL can't leave the East Coast, they rely too much on the bogan factor. Look at the new Matty John's show, honestly, I feel sorry the guy got sacked, but his new show sums up the mentality of an NRL supporter if that is all they have to offer. Rant over.In short, the NRL will support Storm, they can't afford to lose them.
22/04/10 07:19 AM22/04/10 07:19 AM #7 LOL!! I thought it was huge over there? We already have a few huge sports that aren't sh*t why the fark would we support that garbage? If the storm die I and sh*t loads of Vic's couldn't care less.
22/04/10 07:34 AM22/04/10 07:34 AM #8 Huge? Depends what you mean by huge, their poker machine clubs are huge, multi story usually. Without their poker machine clubs they would go broke.
22/04/10 07:35 AM22/04/10 07:35 AM #9 Lol Melbourne has a team for everything, theres a very good reason its called the sporting capital of Aus. And everyone gets behind their teams and go to games, its stupid the crowds we get down here.
