That's a false economy. If you've done your research and have made sure your setup is good, I.E. plugs are gapped correctly, piping is all tight, coil packs are cool, wiring is sound, fuel supply is sufficient etc etc and a generic tune works well straight out of the box, then you're probably lucky. The minimum anyone should do if they plan to run a generic tune is get it on a dyno to see if it is safe. Otherwise, you're flying blind and risking potentially expensive repairs. Many members have bent rods and done big damage by trusting a generic tune without ever checking it for saftey. All that has to happen is it leans out, you get a backfire and bye-bye conrod/s. It wont mater if you have 200rwkw or 350rwkw. Especially with pre 06/06 factory rods.Always get it on a dyno and get your generic tune sus'd for peace of mind. For the sake of $100 or so, it puts you in the picture.

Maybe if you call CAPA, they can advise you on that.So what's your point exactly?

BUT nobody is holding a gun to your head saying that you must have a custom tune - it's entirely up to you - but if people seek advice and the most popular advice is not to trust a generic than what does that say? You're correct and all those with loads of experience in these matters and even those that have been burnt themselves are wrong?...and you talk about keyboard warriors them come-out with gems like "stick it in your ass you negative pricks"

The biggest danger is when a restriction is taken out of the system and the potential for leaning is there Edited 14/09/10 03:52 AM by Buf-Phoon
