So a person cant afford a custom tune but run the risk of $$$$$$$$ in damage? That's a false economy.

If you've done your research and have made sure your setup is good, I.E. plugs are gapped correctly, piping is all tight, coil packs are cool, wiring is sound, fuel supply is sufficient etc etc and a generic tune works well straight out of the box, then you're probably lucky.

The minimum anyone should do if they plan to run a generic tune is get it on a dyno to see if it is safe. Otherwise, you're flying blind and risking potentially expensive repairs. Many members have bent rods and done big damage by trusting a generic tune without ever checking it for saftey. All that has to happen is it leans out, you get a backfire and bye-bye conrod/s. It wont mater if you have 200rwkw or 350rwkw. Especially with pre 06/06 factory rods.

Always get it on a dyno and get your generic tune sus'd for peace of mind. For the sake of $100 or so, it puts you in the picture.

if you can't afford $1500 for a custom tune you can get a custom tune for about $800 using vcm. alot of people on here use vcm, and I will be in the near future.

I must say that this is very good advice, yeah get your generic tune if you must, but then run it up on the dyno to check AFR,s etc. For the sake of another $100-$150 you have some piece of mind, because in this vast country there are many variables such as climate and humidity etc. Cheers

sorry mate but these guys wont have you saying common sense like testing on here they want you to go get a custom tune straight away."Dont risk it blah blah blah" a simple afr check isnt enough.if you want good advise im sorry but it seems as though this forum has had it!talk to a tune house, some pros etc...none of these guys have a tune house they are just keyboard warriors and dont respect anyone that has a small budget.find mick from pit lane or one of the boys from blue power or for the sake of it make some pms or emails directed to the guys with the tuning shops in the sponsors pages.if you waste your time as it seems I have on this forum trying to say that capa dont make c4 explosive that anyone can buy and install in their cars they will just tell you your full of sh*t and youve wrecked your car.I apologise for running a 10 flat on the 1/8th mile with a flash tune and a dump pipe and afrs that were great until 190kms at which stage they got richer (which any one of these guys will tell you is better than lien!)testing is beyond em mate dont waste your time giving them common sense, youll just get told to stay standard or spend big... what was the term straughsberry... $$$$$$$$!

like I said, mine was running good but that's obviously never good enough!

stick it in your ass you negative pricks some people have a budget and they need all the support they can get and if your in that boat, you have my support.

Firstly, you don't need to include the reply when your replying to the post above. Maybe if you call CAPA, they can advise you on that.

So what's your point exactly?

:wtf:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion TUR-BO6, you may not like others' and are more then welcome to put your own across, but tame it down a notch or two.

A great deal of damage has been done by people running generic tunes, that's a fact, deal with it.

BUT nobody is holding a gun to your head saying that you must have a custom tune - it's entirely up to you - but if people seek advice and the most popular advice is not to trust a generic than what does that say? You're correct and all those with loads of experience in these matters and even those that have been burnt themselves are wrong?

...and you talk about keyboard warriors them come-out with gems like "stick it in your ass you negative pricks" :censored:

as for the custom tune bit I ask of you to consider the japanese imports out there. pretty much none of them that are only marginally modified are running anything more than a generic tuner, and you dont see them complaining. the generic tuners are basically an offer of slight performance upgrade but safe in terms of fuel.I ask you to refer to my fuel readings that were takin from a wide band air fuel meter by innovate,my fueel was quite rich.which in my oppinion has to be better than the lein option, and they still run.

As a point of difference when referring to imports - you'll find that most of them are running air-flow meters, so the air/fuel mixtures are controlled differently - plus they are generally over engineered when it comes to injector size - GT-R's run 440cc from the factory for example.

As its been said before, generic tunes can be dangerous, and they can be ok, it depends on the other mods that you have. The biggest danger is when a restriction is taken out of the system and the potential for leaning is there
