Standard Ba Rods

Been asking around about what kind of power the standard BA rods can handle. I been looking into a ground up build but not really keen on spending 10k right now. For the moment I got a nizpro stage 2 kit inc valve springs with built rear GT35 housing, actuator, ported wastegate etc, set of deka 60's, Walbro 341 pump, 4" dump - 5" cat - 3.5" zorst. Sourcing out a Malwood O5 TP currently aswell so im chasing a rough figure of 325-350rwkw, wouldnt mind scraping over the 400rwkw line but I cant see that happening on a standard block. My only concern is the rods, it would be a shame to get everything running and then have it throw a rod down the track sometime because I cheaped out on it.

So yeh, for the time being that I leave the bottom end intact, what kind of power should I safely look at? and by the way, I havnt been in the whole car scene for anywhere near the time some of you guys have, so if I have looked over something please point it out for me.

some one will correct me if I am wrong, but I wouldn't be running much more than 340 on standard BA rods. I know there are alot of guys on here that are running there cars with some big power on stock rods but I would have some cash banked up if it goes bang.

300rwkw is fairly safe.

low boost and low torge will be nice. With those mods I think you might get 330rwkw with 15psi. anymore and its a hand granade like anyone else. Especially if you ever boot it with LESS then half a tank of fuel without a surge tank.

Yeh im sure I will get good advice when I get it tuned, but wouldnt mind knowing a rough figure for now. I would be happy with 330 at 15. Plus theres always room the expand on that with stronger internals.

Hey Loz. I have some used gas rods (same as stronger rods from 06/06 engines onwards) if you want them. They've got about 83,000km on them. They came out of a taxi gas motor so they've had a relatively easy life compared to a turbo or modified turbo engine. I also have some brand new Argo rods and Mahle Powerpak pistons. Loz, how safe is up to your tuner, and your driving style.. If your tuner tunes an agressive tune with high boost, max power and your gonna redline it/ hit the limmiter every chance you get, it would go bang at 300rwkw's.. Best to talk your situation out with your tuner and settle on a number you are both happy with, power v safety.. If I was in your situation id put around happily with a safe 300rwkw's, till I save up the dosh for the build..

I got a bf f6 it had 350 rwkw and it went bang rod split went through the sump and side of the block
