If I do not connect this to the handbrake, will it have to be earthed? or can I just leave it taped up and disconnected

if u want picture on the screen while driving buddy you need to earth it instead of put it to the handbrake. Just wire it up with your stereo earth

I put mine on a toggle switch which is earthed.

yea I thought so. thanks guys

Probably a good idea to have it running to a switch that switches between earth and the handbrake. That way you can switch the switch to the handbrake and make it legal if you ever get pulled over.

there should already be a switch that switches it between dvd screen and the stock aircon details and such that you would normally always have visible, I cannot see why an extra handbrake switch to earth would be necessary to look legal if the police pulled you over

once u flick the switch to go from dvd picture back to stock screen that would be enough

If there is already a switch setup for that then it is all good.

As the previous posters pointed out if you want it onscreen all the time just earth the handbrake wire but our suggestions would be that you have a switch (on/off) in line with the handbrake earth cable so you can switch back and forth for legal reasons.
