From what I can gather..

E85 makes a bit less than half the emmisions.

But E85 uses a third less efficient to run.

Therefore it pretty much only makes it 10% - 15% better to use it...

Bit like the amount of energy required to produce the batteries in hybrid vehicles.....but that's irrelevant to the ignorant consumer, it's all about that warm fuzzy feeling you get while actually driving it!

...and more importantly not forgetting the issue that more ethanol made from molasses means less rum and potentially higher $'s for a bottle :stupid:

The main benefit of E85 is the performance you can get from it. It is cheaper than normal unleaded and gives you an octane rating of 100+. Take a look at the price of Elf 103 octane fuels and compare it.

V8 Supercars are still restricted to the same power, so they don't get the benefits. Although they may be able to make their engines last longer as the tune won't need to be as aggressive.

Not quite senna. V8supercars are restricted to many things relating to the engine and it's components, but power, they can make as much as they like with the limitations in hardware and software being the governing factor.

I don't know how E85 burns, but if it is a cooler burning fuel then a more aggressive tune may be able to be run in order to gain more power. Only time will tell this season I guess.

If you look at Bathurst last year, for example.

Both the SBR cars and 888 cars were running the same hardware.(read same engine from SBR) But 888 managed to get a lot better economy out of the same engine as the Stone Brothers.

It's got a lot to do with the brains in the engineering bunker. Not that Stone Brothers don't have a good set of engineers, mind you, but I think Campbell Little and Ludo Lacroix are geniuses when it comes to the engine department.

True, it all depends on how hard they can lean on the engines and how big their engineers' balls are.

I thought the cars were limited to 650hp???

No horsepower limit.

I think they are struggling to get to that level of power without more revs anyway.

Don't forget it's only a N/A 5litre.
