I have always found that BP Ultimate is the most consistent fuel. I have had issues with Shell V-Power. So when it is claimed to be out of the same refinery I find that very hard to believe.

Maybe, like was said previously, it depends on the operators and how clean their tanks are ...

He also said the bp was better than shell's new 100 octane fuel.

What is this about Shell's new fuel.

Shell dropped V-Power racing 100ron.

The old Shell V-Power racing 100ron was easily superior to BP ultimate, in terms of power, based on the dyno tuning I've had done.

mine pings on almost anything other than bp ultimate.I tried mobil 8000 or whatever there top premium is and it seemed good.shell100 was really good to.I just stick to ultimate for the consistency.

Now for vpower to make it do shell just put an additive into the fuel to make it 98 RON

Ah not too sure about you v-power in your state but in ACT its only 95. we used to have v power racing which was 100 but no one bought it so its gone. I had quite a big argument with a mate of mine about it cause he still thinks its 98 but I made a couple of phone calls to shell and they informed me their optimax was 98 as well all know and their v-power is 95.

I mainly use vortex 98 as there is heaps of caltex servo's near me but when I can I use ultimate 98, can really notice the diff between the two.

Yeah I have heard the same tab. I have been lead to believe BP Ultimate is the *beep* in NSW but have been told that the Shell VPower is superior up here in QLD.

Having said that I use either Shell or BP (they are the only ones that sell 98RON in town) and cant tell the difference, except that the BP is always dearer!

Interesting! Here in order of least to most expensive, the local SHell sells its standard 91RON as unleaded, then has a premium unleaded which is 95RON and then then sell Vpower which I am told by the local distributor is 98RON. No such thing as Optimax up here!

I do live quite a way from Canberra, but you would think Shell would keep it consistent so as not to confuse the consumer, wouldn't you?

I think your mate blurred the lines on fuel a little.. I used to work for shell and what you said was right, but only applies to the regular unleaded. the 'premium' is also the same as was the old 'super' (premium with a valve saving addative) The state refinery makes all the fuel (ULP & PULP) for shell, bp and caltex. Mobil and Gull import from singapore. But the 98 for each company is shipped from their refinery whether it is instate or out of state (Unless they are doing something really dodgey in sydney)

BP make their Ultimate, Caltex make their Vortex 98, and Shell make their V-Power in Geelong (the old Optimax)

Because V-power is made in Geelong it is too expensive to bring over west, so the eastern states get it, but we get gyped.

There are different grades of V-Power, the 95RON, the V-Power 100E, and the V-Power 100R

100R is by far the best fuel of the lot, but hard to come by now.. We were shipping it over in drums for the race car, but when we were unable to get it we switched to Vortex 98. I have always preferred Ultimate over Vortex 98, but the Vortex seems to be better at top end in the race car going on times..

In short the fuels are all similar enough for day to day driving, but if you can get V-Power 100R, stockpile it!

I have only used Ultimate or V-Power, cant really tell any difference from day to day driving, and I havent had any problems with either.

Will using a high octane fuel like a 98 or 100 RON then adding an octane boost to it (off the shelf kind from the servo, say) have any negative effects other than running a bit hotter, or only positive?

Hey, anybody who is in the know, tell us why all the BP ultimate has dried up.

All the servos near me haven't any resupplies, and they don't know when???
