Oh - almost forgot. The one thing I was less than happy with in insuring with GIO was the so-called "performance car" premium. I have a basic excess of $450 PLUS a $400 performance car excess. $850 all up for an at-fault.

However, I thought the benefits outweighed this cost (such as the two-years of new for old replacement if the car is written off or stolen. AND the fact I've never had an at-fault.

Agree totally about reading the fine print there Scootre - but when you're 22 - there's only 1 place you can get insurance with - Just Car Insurance :-) ..everyone else is like...ask u all the quesitons - and then "and your age".....beep beep beep beep...(my attempt at an engaged signal).

Voy mate at 22 I think you're so damned lucky to have one of these things. Congrats for that in itself. It's taken me a loong time.

As for insurance, yeah I understand what you mean. Keep in mind though that at the end of the day the insurers are selling a product. If you're not happy with that product, there is often a little room for negotiation.

When I was in my early 20's I was running my own business and went and got insurance on some equipment that was travelling with me. It was an off the shelf policy much like car insurance, but after reading the fine print I told the insurance guy that I wasn't happy with a couple of points. We talked about it and he agreed to write up a variation, customised for my situation.

Of course, it's a bit different with a car policy - espeically for a specialised car like these, but at the end of the day, you can always negotiate.

Brokers might also be a good way to do get the type of policy you want.

voy74656,

how you travelling champ? Its nice to reap some rewards for working hard idn't it? Yeah I brought mine when I was 22 (just 23) had no prior car insurance, hooked up a deal with the RACV for 'bout $1500 yearly. Straight to rating 2, Just Car was gonna charge me about 3 large and was gonna be like rating 5 million. Dunno if you have an equivalent of the RACV over in Adelaide, Just Car is way 2 expensive.

Good luck!! ;)

Voy - That quote from Just Car insurance seems pretty damn low. From memory the quote I got from them was rediculous. Let me know how you go when you finally get the car and actually insure it. I'll be giving them a call if you get it for that price!

Also what the excess like for them, I would be guessing pretty large, especially for our age!
