18/10/08 03:20 AM18/10/08 03:20 AM #12 CCleaner is a good program that removes a heap of crap of your computer, a few computer tech guys put me onto it. Try it out http://www.ccleaner.com/download
18/10/08 06:10 AM18/10/08 06:10 AM #13 just get avast. When you download it it comes as a 21day trial and wants you to register. Once you register it last for 12 months. Its awesome cause unlike all other major anti virus programs its not memory resident and memory hungry.
18/10/08 06:29 AM18/10/08 06:29 AM #14 Dillz-Like already mentioned above... Avast is the 'BEST' free AV I have been able to find so far...I own an IT company, and while we recommend 'internet security suites' such as Nortors etc as a complete solution, however Avast is by far the best free bit of gear we have tried, tested and install on all PC's we build and sell...If you think there is a serious virus issue on my puter, best thing to do is run a boot scan with this, you will find it in the programs menu - and therefore will run the scan as soon as the pc powers up and starts to load windows. Be aware if you run a full scan this could take a few hours if you have a lot of large files, and/or compressed files... However this is your best bet! Also as the others have mentioned its free to trial, and free to register for a 12 month license! so... ENJOY!!! Edited 18/10/08 06:30 AM18/10/08 06:30 AM by smicky
18/10/08 06:35 AM18/10/08 06:35 AM #15 I've used AVG a while ago, but would use Avast nowadays. You might also like to check out ClamWin, though it doesn't do real-time scanning.Cheersws
18/10/08 07:07 AM18/10/08 07:07 AM #16 Author Thanks for all your help fellas, I think avast looks to be the go. Will just have to wait an see now.
18/10/08 07:40 AM18/10/08 07:40 AM #17 dude if you really want a good one that gets rid of EVERYTHING get SUPERantispyware free edition, my mate owns a pc shop and sells every anti-virus under the sun but still runs this free one. dont tell his customers that though lol. anyway try it cuz its free and works forever and not just a 21 day trial. its has fixed my pc so I reccomend it
18/10/08 08:33 AM18/10/08 08:33 AM #18 I've haven't tried Avast before (downloading now)NOD32 is also a really good anti-virus program (although it isn't free) But I think I can manage a copy or so send a pm!
18/10/08 09:50 AM18/10/08 09:50 AM #19 As nang will tell you, I had some major virus issues that cause this forum to run slower than dialup + a host of other bizaare stuff going on (blue screen of death but music playing).Tried Avest, Onecare and AVG and other ones none of them worked.Nang formatted it and we started again with Nortons. Saving a bit of coin isnt worth the hassle IMHO
18/10/08 10:05 AM18/10/08 10:05 AM #20 Although they cost a bit and will inevitability give your system performance a bit of a hit, I think it's a small price to pay. Symantec's enterprise versions are quite something, so knowing the amount that they put into their software and the updates gives allot more piece of mind over something free...because you know what they say about free lunches.
