Does anyone know a good virus scanner you can download for free that can get rid of spyware and the likes, not just scan for it then demand payment to fix it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Any more suggestions? Verified links would be best as every second "Virus scanner" is worse than the sh*t your trying to get rid of.

how old is it?

have you tried starting windows in safe mode and running the program (as some infected files won't be removable while windows is normally running)

alternatively you could use a program called "hijackthis" but you would need somebody to analyze.
