ok what about this... they look under your bonnet and find a dual BOV, you haven't got it on atmo but they see the trumpet ... has anyone been in this situation? I would think they would try and do you anyway...

when my mates have been pulled over, theyve only been done as 1point for each defect, not 3 for the one defect?? or have they been extremly lucky

I have an engineers cert done by athol mullens up here in newcastle, that says my atmosphere venting BOV is legal and does not break any ADR's as the vehicle does not have a air flow meter like skylines does. so therefore the venting of gass is not illegal as it does not effect our car as the run a map sensor instead. as athol explained it to my with the airflow meter they measure for example 100 unit sof air and then sets aside 100 units of fuel to go with it, but when the BOV vents 20 units of air then the emissions change due to the richer mixture. so we don't have this problem with the map sensor. you can not be done for noise either because a drive by noise test does not involve changing gears or backing off the accelerator there fore the BOV will not activate and create and noise!! I will get the exact wording of the cert tomorrow when I get the car back

I need my pinkslip for my car. (ba XR6T) I have a few little mods and have left my standard b.o.v. venting to atmosphere. the guy told me technically it needs to be plumbed up but he said it doesnt matter for pink slip. blue slip definitely though. so I take that as it is illegal, but its not super important. just be careful not to let it blow of past cops. they dont seem to know a lot about cars and if they want can pick u up on the simplest things.

how can they get you for excessive noise? do they DB reader to see how loud it is? or can they just say its noisy?

I dont really agree with this, even though he has his certificate...

The BOV is still venting oily air into atmo, vent it to atmo and put a white cloth over it and ill bet my left one that it turns black after a day or two of driving

old topic I know but I still cant get my head around the legalities of a BOV. everybody tells me they are illegal but I would have thought even if it was on atmo it is just venting compressed air that has been pulled through the intake? there is no mixing of any bad gases here?

any ideas - im sure its simple enough it just doesnt make sense to me? I get the whole excessive noise arguement but that's not really an environmental issue in which I led to believe was at the core of the BOV's being illegal.

ive got a GFB hybrid BOV which most of the time is on plumback so interested to see if Mr Plod would have an issue with this when they see the trumpet sticking out.

there seems to be so many conflicting points of view
