All,

Having just purchased a stock XR6T I'm a little disappointed with the performance. The motor seems to rev very quickly and smothly but just doesn't have that much punch. Would you say this is normal? Is this the reason so many people modify these cars? Or could it just be mine'sa slug? or possibly the car needs some work. eg plugs, air filter? it seems like the main thinghurting the car is getting the weight off the line. My previous car was an Au falcon and the ba doesn'tfeel radicaly quicker in acceleration. Just miles ahead in every other facet.

Thoughts?

How many k's has it done? Is the service due?

My car stock seemed like a slug also the power deliver is very linear in these cars it can be deceiving.

Edit it and you will be impressed, it will keep up with holdens best for only 1000ish

ahh, I love these posts.

'oh mate, it doesnt have much punch like my WRX did or...blah blah blah'

Unless your car is faulty, which is probably isnt, youre just being tricked by the smooth, linear power delivery. the Torque curve is flatter than other cars.

I used to HATE my old Cordia turbo back in the day because it delivered its torque in a bunch at 3000rpm which got very annoying in traffic. A sudden thump of power is NOT what u want in my opinion.

Unless your stepping out of a quick car I wouldn't say the XRT is a slug when stock, you just got to drive it to it's full advantage.

4 or 6 speed? Auto manual?

I won't lie and say my first impressions on driving a T were mind blowing. It felt way too smooth, power was quiet linear and it's slow off the line. I drove an xr8 and thought it felt way faster, probably because of the menacing exhaust note. Kinda makes me think the sound/beefy exhaust note gives you the false impression of speed.

If you have a 4 speed auto, flip it into manual mode, select 2nd gear, coast up to around 57kmh push accelerator flat to the floor, then push gear stick forward to engage 1st. Continue with foot to the floor action and pull 2nd just before you hit 80kmh.

In past occasions this has made several of my passengers scream/comment/cry that I almost made them sh*t their pants. :buttrock:

Ouch, I don't fancy your poor gearbox's chances of surviving for too long being treated like that...

geezes I was thinking the same thing!

My XR6T is still a stocker and your right, you honestly don't notice the power your getting. But watch that accelerator, it just keeps climbing extremely fast.

Does that linear feeling go when the turbo is taken to higher psi levels?

Best advice I can give is similar to the rest, very linear, smooth power curve.

jump onto a road where you're 'alone', and accelerate off the mark, guess how fast you're going (within the legal speed limit please, and only when it's safe to do so!) and then have a glance at the speedo.

you may be surprised

  • Still have a turbo, it's just on a diesel.

Or get the front spot in the traffic light derby, take off at about half throttle till you get to the speed limit. Now take a look back and I can guaranty that you will have left everyone way behind.
