October 28, 200718 yr #1 How hard is it to fit a short shift to a 6 speed man BA??What are the step and is there anything I need to know?
October 28, 200718 yr #3 I was told the box had to be dropped and it bolted on that way.I'm sure somebody will come along soon and confirm how it's done
October 28, 200718 yr #4 that's right the box does have to be dropped out to be able to bolt it up properly
October 28, 200718 yr #6 Have you picked out a shifter yet? I brought 1 of those solid alloy billet ones and it was so noisy I had to sell it. I spoke to Mal from Mal woods automotive and brought one of his. Like he said, you don't want a new car with a annoying whine.
October 29, 200718 yr #7 I dont mean to hijack this thread but has anyone got a pic of a mal wood shifter, shortened stick and gear knob.Cheers Daniel
October 29, 200718 yr #9 once installed you cant actually see any difference. 03xr6t has a shortened stick and I didn;t notice until he told me. mal woods gear knob looks like the Expensive Daewoo one I think. im sure dean will be along and will smash up a pic.
October 30, 200718 yr #10 They dont look any different. I had the tremec Knob that Mal supplied fitted to mine buy i removed it. I have a scar on the inside of my left hand and the stitching on the knob made it uncomfortable for me to use. I have the Ford standard six speed know now. As far as function is concerend, the only stock 6 speed shifter i have used is in Nang3's phoon and the mal woods in mine is definatly a shorter and more precise shift. (oh and Ross is a big girly man) I have found that the harder you use the shifter from day 1 the better the shift will be for fast shifts. I went fairly easy on mine and it took approx 7500k's before i could really smash it into 3rd with 100% confidence but if you drove it hard from the start and wore it in i think i would happen much quicker.
