The T5 has a rating of 230 lbs-ft and 312 N-m. The TR-3650 as in the V8 has 360 lbs-ft and 488 N-m. Why the V8 got the TR-3650 and the turbo didn't. Please someone from ford shed some light on this. This is only a rumour so correct me if I'm wrong but apparently the T5 is assemble in Aust and the supply contract goes till the end of the year. Ford may by contractual reasons be in a position that they have no choice but to use the T5.

Anyway in the past (EA to AU) the manual was stronger than the Auto. Dont know about now as they have developed the Auto quite well. Maybe someone should give BTR a call and get the torque ratings for the Turbo auto and the new V8 auto box which is even stronger. (I would but am too busy with work at the moment)

The T5 is definitely at it's limit behind the Turbo - and the TR3650 is really near it's limit as well in the V8s - if you check out the Tremec web site (ttcautomotive.com) you will find specs for all the boxes - check out the torque ratings and more importantly the vehicle weight ratings. You will find that there are only a couple of the boxes actually rated for a vehicle as heavy as the BA - and Ford aren't using either of them!!!

I'm surprised that you speak like this?

I have nothing but respect for facts, and even comments, but I'm shocked that you put people down?

Please respect others, I hate to see a huge sh*t fight over this again.

Turbotrana - Great facts, do you know how we can find the same information for the Auto?

Mal, I'm only mucking around, don't take it personally....besides I thought I put forward some very good facts.

Same K's cdm, noticed a big improvement after 1500km.

Although the XR8 manual I drove had a better shift, it had 400Km on it. If I had the money I would get the 8 box and drive train for sure

First off I have an auto. I Also think the T5 is stronger than they say. I will also say ( I know this will upset a few ) that the T5 is like a tractor box and you could be forgiven if you thought you were changing gears in a truck. The 3560 is a much nicer shift even when new than the T5 and if they put that box in the 6T first off I would have brought a manual. And if the auto throws a wobbley its not that hard to change the car to a manual anyways. Plus how much the box can handle depends on driver skill to a certain extent to. A good driver can make his car last longer than a rough idiot anyday.

Auto for me....way too old and too lazy...the debate about which box is stronger and cheaper to fix....doesn't really matter ....its called new car warranty
