I can't add a reply to my post in Cars For Sale as it has been CLOSED by the MODS (Fair cop.. it was sold).

Topic Here

However, I though that I would add the following:

Broker purchased the car for $24.5k on Thursday arvo (15th Feb). Today (21st Feb) driving past REBEL Ford noticed my car for sale in their yard. Now get this!! They could only have had it for 5 days, however it is advertised (at the car yard) as "NOW $28,990, WAS $29,990" :spoton:

I'm guessing they paid the broker somewhere around $25k or so for it. So that gives them a $4 ~ $5k markup on the car!!

Their ad here.

Ah the tactics of car yards!!

Might be of interest to anyone currently trying to sell or buy a 'T'

Yep that's right. And the next person that goes in there and tries to talk them down on price will get told that it's as good as they can do. :spoton:

Its a car yard. They are there to make money. What else do you want them to do? that's a pretty standard markup...

Usual bare minimum for a car that price would be 3g

Fair enough :spoton:

You should go in to the dealer and play with them, ask them if anything has been fixed/changed on it to see what they say. :spoton:

GST may be a factor also here..... $almost 3k worth.

I would suppose the dealer is obliged to charge/collect GST on a sale.

Not sure what the broker did about this.

I remember a few years ago going to a dealer in Sydney with a mate who had a Nissan Pathfinder 4WD he wanted to backtrade on something - he didn't really care what, it's just the payments on the 4WD were killing him. This one car yard had the same model Pathfinder on their lot for $29,990.

My mate's one was a bit rough, had a small ding in the rear 1/4, probably would of cost around $1000 to fix. Anyway my mate saw a Expensive Daewoo WB Statesman hidden up the back of the lot. Looked like a drive car of one of the salesmen or maybe it had just come in because it hadn't been detailed.

We enquired what changeover price they could do. The salesman went through the usual farce of going to consult the boss and scribbling figures on a bit of paper at the same time madly punching calculator buttons. After a few minutes he came back and said if we give him the Pathfinder and $10,000 we could have the Statesman! :spoton:

Statos were only worth about $6K at the time, maybe $8K for a mint-low-mile job-only-driven-on-Sundays-by-little-old-lady. My mate figured $20K would of been a reasonable trade in figure for the Pathfinder considering the dent, not pay the car yard to take it!
