November 9, 200619 yr #1 I have been with this ISP for a few years. I upgraded from dialup to Broadband with them, I WAS on 1500kbps/256kbps connection until recently...I received an email from them advising that they had been providing this service for below cost (I was paying $49.95/month plus their phone service charges) and had no choice but to drop my service down to a 512kbps connection, or I had the option to pay an extra $20/month to keep the current speed. This is $30 cheaper than their actual price for 1.5Mbps of $99.95I complained loudly, and was basically told that I could either deal with it or go somewhere else. Since I was moving out soon anyway I cut it back to their cheapest service for my parents to continue using, and was going to connect to adsl2+ when I got into the new place.Over a week ago I applied for ADSL2+, and was told last Friday that it was not available in my area due to pair gain, or a RIM being located between my phone line and the exchange... this can't be helped as it's telstra's infrastructure. So I said ok no problems, hook me up with 1.5MB/s connection and I'll pay the $69.95 (as the $20 upgrade from my original service). Here I am sitting today, I have contacted them almost every day to find out what the status is and I still havent got an answer. "I'll get him to call you this afternoon (yesterday)".... nope"He will call you this morning (today)"... nope"He will definitely call you within the next hour" ... nope"He is just on another call at the moment, he will contact you in a few minutes as soon as he is finished with his current customer"..... that was 20 minutes ago!!!So simply put, I will not be connecting with iiNet, instead I have looked at Westnet who charges $59.95 for a 1.5Mb/s service and their phone service is also cheaper. Only hassle is the $99 setup fee, but that is pretty standard.Since iiNet have gone BIG time (ie interstate and even to NZ) their customer service has dropped considerably and their prices have only gone up. ADSL2 is usually not available in areas less than 5 years old (unless telstra have built a whole new exchange in that area) which means high cost of broadband at low speeds. My advice: if you dont get an answer you want after 1 day, tell them you are going to cancel the application and look somewhere else. This just isnt good enough. Has anyone else has this problem? [/rant]
November 9, 200619 yr #2 I use them and I think they are great $49.95 per month for ADSL2+ 10gb/10gbI have had download speeds of 1.6 mb/sec Never had an issue.
November 9, 200619 yr #3 I am also currently with iinet, but this will come to an end shortly I recieved the same letter, only I do not have the option to pay $20 extra to hang on to my 1.5mbps speed, but only a $99 plan if I want that speed maintained.I told them that this would mean loosing me as a customer, as Westnet was a lot cheaper, but they really didn't care too much about this, so goodbye iinet, hello Westnet in the next week or so.I am on a RIM connection, and Telstra only put in a Mini MUX to support 1.5mbps, so I have no joy with ADSL2 anyway Edited November 9, 200619 yr by Ninka
November 9, 200619 yr #4 I use em on ADSL 2+. Download speeds rock but I had heaps of dramas getting the service installed correctly - wrong phone numbers and all sorts of stuff. Their telephone support is a total shocker - I have waited over an hour most times to get through to someone. Unbelieveable that it could take so long AND then they win an award (!!!!) for having such good phone service.Having said that they are great once you get through to them...So mixed bag for me but I am still their customer.... 40 gig a month woohoo

November 9, 200619 yr #6 Author adsl2+ services will not be affected by the price increase, as it is connected through iiNet's own DSLAM equipment. Therefore their speeds remain high and prices remain the same. But for those NOT connected on adsl2+, they use Telstra's equipment, which has a wholesale price sold to iiNet for $xx.xxTelstra apparently put their prices up recently and iiNet is passing this on. Absolutely ridiculous, and their service has gone down hill in the past few months.I just got off the phone with Westnet... I will have ADSL within 4 to 10 working days and they will even send me an SMS to tell me when it's connected

November 9, 200619 yr #9 ive had iinet for 1.5 yrs in my current house and about 4 yrs in previous and have not had 1 single drama with them.. phone support is about average but their email support has been top notch - always had a reply same day or the next..ADSL2+ does indeed rock, gotta love downloading 1.0-1.5megs a sec !!
November 9, 200619 yr #10 Author Well yeah like I said, if you have ADSL2 and you dont want to move you wont have a problem. The email regarding the price hike was the first issue I have had with them in years. It was all down hill from that point on. Try to take your internet connection with you to another area... good luck!
