Isn't it amazing how much attention is payed to all this 'mine is bigger that yours cr*p"

All this competition does, is to ensure that our car choice evolves, and each new car provide better handling, economy and power (or power delivery), finish and value for money.

Are XR6 T owners really that nervous a bunch ?

So what if the Late model camira SS is faster than a standard XR6 T!

The fact remain that the XR6T / Typhoon package, is the best car ford have made ever, and these car can be made to be insanely fast for a relatively small $$ outlay, so unless you plan to retain everything absolute stock on your car, what is the issue :pinch::laughing:

We are all doing our best to ensure a healthy car industry in Australia by buying these cars when they are an attractive option, so lets hope Expensive Daewoo is successful with their new car, as we will otherwise see a bunch of good Australian workers loose their job, and that this is at the expense of some of the imported brands that we have seen grow substantially over the last few years, at the expense of Australian jobs and $$ on the trade deficit.

Yep, if it raises the bar for the local product then that's great, we all win. Ford will rise to the challenge no doubt, as they have time up their sleeve before the next model is released. We need a strong local car industry.

Holdens figures are always absolute  No one can ever come within a bulls roar of them. How can a car that has gained 10 kw and 20nm while gaining 120kg be faster than the previous model. Simple mathematics regarding power to weight ratio proves it. Knowing Expensive Daewoo they either used one of the hot motors they give press cars or did it going downhill.

Well said Ninka and Phoontastic. It can only be a good thing for the local automotive industry. They are producting a world class product whilst raising a few eyebrows overseas.

What about poor old Mitsubishi. They have a hellava lot riding on the 380. If that fails then a lot of people will be unemployed.

Some of you guys really do need a reality check. It is only a car after all!!

Dunno, arent they getting shorter gearing and sh*t?

Although that makes it interesting....on one hand they're telling us about wonderful unchanged fuel economy and on the other hand they're configuring their cars to go faster and use, overall, more of the stuff.

Hmmmmmm.....

I'd be interested in the true economy numbers in regular day to day driving, gotta pay to play....

I hope the VE is faster / better than the T as it will give me another option to consider when changing cars within the next couple of years.

Never been into this Ford vs Expensive Daewoo sh1t and given you only live once it would be pretty boring if all I ever owned going forward was another variant of the current Falcon.

As great as the T is there are a number of members of this forum that have tried other cars such as BMW's, Evo's and Liberty GT's and are by all accounts very happy with their decision to move on from their beloved T's.

All that said, a roomy and confortable 12 sec street car for 50k, which is the T, is going to take some beating, VE or otherwise, so bring it on I say.

No arguments from me about competition being good for the local car industry. However being a blue blood when it comes to vehicles. I reckon the intent of this thread was beware guys dont let these guys get the upper hand on the street.

Its called PRIDE.

I have to buy into this VE vs Ford crap.....

we all know that the AU was a piece of marketing wank that got caught in the act.......a la the french turd who redesigned the poor old Magna!

Ford moved on and were forced to create the beautifull BA/BF. Handling + grace = successful car.

If the VE is as good as our friends on LS1 tell us it is, it will help retain some local parts suppliers vs China and Thailand and it will force Ford into the same type of upgrade with Orion..guess what...we all win!

My bet is on Orion having to offer a high tech diesel option, a performance based gas option and a seriously motor optioned V8 - the turbo competition from Expensive Daewoo will come in the form of the VE2....watch this space for a twin turbo from both sides of the fence within 3 years!

Meanwhile...nearly every upgrade creates a better car...build a bridge and get over it!

Just picked up the latest Motor mag which has several test on the VE in it. First thing I do is flick to the performance figures for the SS.

Auto

0-100km/h 5.69

quarter 13.90 @ 167.7

Manual

0-100km/h 5.35

quarter 13.63 @ 170.7

The times were recorded on a damp track between showers and they go on to say it will run quicked in better conditions.

Call me a skeptic but my only question is how quick is the SS Joe Average walks of the street and buys compared to the press cars???????
