mine was a bit hard to change into 1 st  and  was mainly when stationary  2nd a few also , but it's come good , I took it to dealer with 2000 klms , and I didn't play up  , I thought I was clutch myself  its a 7/05 build . regards tony

I have the same problem. Interesting thing is mine is an 05/05 build. But now the clutch is starting to slip in 1st & 2nd.

It is going in next week, so we will see.

Sams problem for me. Ford changed the clutch hydraulic fluid and charged me $40 for the pleasure . No better.

vik...no way I would pay for a warranty issue,sounds like syncromesh to me???

Will almost certainly be clutch drag, or failure to DIS engage. Will eventually wear out the first gear synchro. Ben.

T5 in mine and about 1 in 100 times, I have to give it a shove to get it into 1st gear. Clutch is not dragging as the symptoms did not change one bit when I had the clutch replaced with a Mal Woods unit (standard clutch did not cope with extra kw). MOFO looked at the car twice, could not reproduce the fault other than to say it is not a smooth gearbox and basically said 'live with it'. I just wanted it recorded on my service record as it is slowly getting worse. I don't know how smooth the T56 is however, the T5 is about as agricultural as a Russian built tractor. Even the Lada had a smoother gearbox!

My F6 has a similar problem of selecting 1st when stationary, like waiting at the lights.

I have found it occurs when you have had your foot on the clutch with the box in neutral for a long time (greater than 20 secs).

If you leave the car in neutral with your foot off the clutch then push the pedal wait a second then select first it is ok.

They told me it was caused by dirty fluid and that the fluid is not covered by warranty. Pissed me off but what can you do? Oh wait, I know, take it back and tell them it didn't @#$@#$ fix it.

It happens badly when cold but also at the lights. I've noticed that if I pop it out of gear and leave the clutch in that it seems to happen more often.

I'm wondering if it is clutch drag as WTB56 suggested.

Your problem sounds more serious - but I think most cars have this problem with first especially if you sit at the lights with your clutch in for a while.

The best solution I've come across over the years is to put the car in neutral, take the foot of the clutch, give it a couple of revs (2000pm is fine), then put foot back on clutch and put it first.

I have a feeling sometimes if everything isn't spinning when you try and engage a gear it can be trouble.

Well that's true if the gears dont line up and they aren't spinning then they wont mesh properly. It's even worse on a bike if you have the clutch in too long, it wont select the next gear down. Even just letting your foot off the clutch a for a short period is enough to get the guts spinning again.
