HELP. I'm a journalist working for the Sunday Tele and doing a story about this XR6 overboosting recall. I've found a couple of people who have suffered it but I need a few more to speak to.

I'd also really like to hear from someone based in Sydney who could be in a photograph with their car for us.

If you can help please email at [email protected]

Thanks.

I havnt heard any recall, there is none... Some T's overboost due to an error on the ecu. When this occurs Ford advises you take your car to them and they can now (hopefully) fix it. But its not a recall because most of the T's dont have this problem. I never have (touchwood) and hopefully never will. I have asked my dealer about this and there is no recall.

There is a "Recall", I went to my dealer and they told me it is a "recall" even though it isnt an advertised one as it doesnt have anything to do with a "Safety Recall". The re-flash itself is the recall and the fact that all XR6 Turbos of a certain date have been recalled for the re-flash. By rights the dealers should contact the customers to get them to come in for the re-flash.

"When this occurs Ford advises you take your car to them and they can now (hopefully) fix it. But its not a recall because most of the T's dont have this problem. "

ford advising you to take the car in IS a recall. The fact that all factory Ts have exactly the same tune in them (pre- whatever date) then yes all Ts do have this "problem" according to Ford.

Really?? I have to change dealers. I got told theres no recall and that's its just updated software that is to be installed upon service, I think they knew that if if results in a power loss they wont tell me. Thanks Steve for the insight.

Hi guys (and gals)

Andrew from Ford Public Affairs here with a couple of points of clarification.

One, there is no recall. Period. A recall is only required for a safety issue and this is clearly not such an issue.

Second, we spoke to our tech guys and their response was as follows:

"The PCM software upgrade affects a change to the sensitivity of the engine to detect a potential overboost situation which, as a result, would activate the overboost protection mechanism.

It does not change or alter in anyway the turbo-boost settings of the engine, which determine the mainline performance level of the vehicle.

No changes were made to the calibration which would affect the power and torque of normal engine operation.

The PCM software upgrade was tested before it was put into the field and no acceleration differences were recorded between the old and new calibration."

Hope this helps clear up any confusion.

cheers

Thanks Andrew, much appreciated mate...

Ford PR Man,

I am suprised that Ford deem this Overboost fix as a non safety issue. If you were overtaking and lost power it could really cause a "safety issue" :o

I also think that Ford could improve their customer support if they respond more frequently on the forums or your website to "Major" issues like Driveline clunk, power steering shudder and brake shudder. If we have an "Official Response" from Ford, we all know what the truths are so that we can get our problems sorted.

The idea is to improve customer service

thank you :nono:

You know what I would like to see Ford do...

Offer XR6T, XR8, FPV upgrades upon purchase on a more advertised level. The market for these cars generally turns to after market mods etc. Ford should wake up and offer this to their customers. An example could be a boost gauge for the XR6T, yes we cannot get the FPV version but the dealership should offer a few varities and installation. Ford should also be offering their own performance upgrades upon purchase eg: for $2000 we can install software that will offer 260kw or for $3000 we can intstall software that will give 290kw ect...I think from memory Audi does this right through to 300kws on the 1.4litre turbo series. And with customer service and service improvements Ford would be

Ford & good customer service are 4 words combined that will never make sense. I don't know what it is with them??? Sure, they bend over backwards to get your hard earned up front but their after sales service is S-H-I-T, sh*te... You wouldn't get the european or japanese manufacturers doing the same, so why does Ford do it? If I'm paying $44K odd for a car I expect better after sales service. I think when the lease is up, it could be goodbye Ford, hello Subaru WRX STi...
