Yeah, I got my edit done yesterday. On cold start, mine idles right up to almost 2500rpm for a few seconds then comes back down to normal...

Also haven't had a custom tune yet, hopefully custom tune fixes it!

Seems strange to me why these cars are'nt going into limp mode. They are supposed to go into limp mode if they idle over 2300 rpm. It supposed to be safety measure built into the PCM.

If it goes over a certain rpm and there is no load on the motor or movement of the vehicle the PCM is supposed to think the throttle is stuck open and go into limp mode.

Mine used to do it at 2300 rpm.

There is nothing strange about it at all. If the system commands the revs up then of course there wont be an error. Its doing exactly what its supposed to do. If the throttle is commanding revs down and they go up, then an error condition is generated.

Back to the first question.

Engine initial fire rpm (the issue being discussed here) is controlled by two separate tables, being air_flow_multiplier_in_neutral and air_flow_multiplier_in_drive. Both are a time_running versus coolant temperature table with 42 data points. By getting your tuner to adjust this table the initial fire rpm can be set anywhere you want.

easy adjustment guys

anyone who has purchased the edit in s.a drop in for an adjustment. alternatively

can be adjusted when carrying out custom tune.

only seems to occur on very few ba models with or without edit but simple adjustment will change strat up rpm.

Is this not a little excessive revs for a dead cold engine.

Mine starts at 2500rpm for about 3 seconds, then backs of to about 1200 for the next minute or more.

Why so high at startup FordEdit?? It has been custom tuned, but when the guys tune it, you would assume the donks already bloody hot, therefor maybe they need to be informed by CAPA of this issue.

hi gooza

custom tuning involves tuning a vehicle at n.o.t (normal operating temperature)

again only very few cars with or without the edit have the cold start high rev

issue. there fore the tuner needs to be made awre of the cold start revs if needs adjustment.may be a need to be kept overnight so can be adjusted dead cold.

So your saying that the PCM will let the car idle at 2500 rpm until it reaches a pre-determined water temp.and then gradually bring rpm down as it reaches its temp targets.

I think you'll find that the PCM should record a high rpm error if it goes over a certain rpm at startup and as soon as you engage Drive it should go into limp mode. Does'nt matter if the car is cold or hot.

Mine used to do it in both of these senarios. The fact that these cars are'nt doing it is a concern.

If its that simple to fix and you know customers cars are doing this why don't you have the fix already written into your software.

As far as a custom tune goes, it should cover all operating temperatures of each car to ensure the car is doing what it's supposed to. Not just at operating temperature. Other wise its not really a custom tune.

Its simply a performance tune.

stock tune kn filter 3 times started it up and its done this .

And 1 time it went all the way around to the revlimiter .

Plenty of stock cars exhibit this behaviour....and plenty dont....all running the same factory Ford software. If your car does this with the Edit in place then by all means have the tables I highlighted changed to reduce initial fire rpm.

And Macka give me the PXXXX diagnostic code error that your car generates when this happens and I will explain the parameters the PCM uses to make its shutdown decisions.

my car with the edit only revs to 1800-1900 on cold start then very quickly drops back down as it was before the edit
