  1. Happy Birthday macka'sxr6t!

  2. Lownsey should hand his shame. Never means never, retire and make a come back to the blue oval in 2 years WINCUP IS A WANKER he was going to retire in 3 years we now know how he can a FORD it !!!!!!!! Man I hope triple nuff nuff nuff win, the applause will be deafening but the booooooes I will hear in Mildura
  3. Hi chaps haven't posted for quite a long time When I first heard the news I was shocked but not surprised 888 team boss pretty much said he was gonna make a change when Ford wound back it's involvement in V8 Supercars. After reading your comments I'm over the team change. I do feel sorry for Dicky Johnson though he finely has a competitive car again and another rock takes him out. What makes people think that 888 will immediately start winning races for Expensive Daewoo next year, HRT have'nt been able to do it and they're the factory backed team that has the biggest budget. There is something inherently wrong with the Expensive Daewoo package there is not one consistent Expensive Daewoo team going around. HRT haven't been able to find the problem and they have been building crappadoors for years People soon forget that it took 888 several years to be competitive consistently. It may take some time for 888 to stumble across a solution to Holdens inconsistency and make it flow like the FG Falcon. I for one will be happy to watch them sink or swim. It's now up to the Ford sponsored teams to step up and justify Fords faith in them and start producing results. Ford now needs to get their best driver line up together in one team aka Frosty and Courtney together in FPR cars and lift their game. For those that think the V8's are dying, event crowd numbers and merchandise sales would suggest otherwise. It's only your interest that has diminished so enough of the dooms day crap. As for Production car racing pfftt seen it before, "I'd rather watch paint dry"
  4. Is'nt Craig Lowdnes a ford contracted driver? He has been the main face for ford in the V8 series since his crossover from the dark side and Ambroses departure to the US. You would have thought they would have supported him and T8 a little better than that. They have clearly given ford the best exposure and return for their money than any other ford team. I will be hoping that the can make it three in a row at Bathurst this year and either T8 driver wins the championship just to show them what fools the decision makers at ford really are. It would be even better if they did it again next year with out their support
  5. Yes how often have we heard that voice inside our heads tells us you should'nt be doing this and we choice to ignore it. So have the car detailers given you some sort of guarantee that they can remove the overspray. Sure the cut and polish will remove the overspray from the paint work but what about all the plastic and rubber and your windows. If they don't get it all off Try some metho or turps and plenty of clean soft rags and some old fashion elbow grease. I'm a painter by trade and these 2 products will shift most acrylic oversprays and will not damage paint work. Acrylic will come of the rubber and glass pretty easily the plastic is another problem. Try either product on a part of the plastic that you cannot easily see to see which one works best. Have a good quality plastic & rubber rejuvinator handy and treat each section you clean ASAP. You need to get on to it before the acrylic cures. I can understand your p@ssed of but the longer you leave it for someone else to clean off the harder it will be. I would be cleaning the rubber and plastic myself and billing them for my time Good luck Disclaimer This is the method that I would use if it were my car and I accept no responsibility what so ever if you chose to use it on your car it is purely a suggestion and a course of action should the detailing be unsuccessfull. As in the case of any chemicals on surfaces, please try a test patch in a spot that is hard to see to check for reactions and effects on surfaces.
  6. that's a nice boat and great choice of anchor. Should have waited a little longer for the new Ford. If the picture that's on the cover a the mag I was looking at today is accurate it will make the Expensive Daewoo look like the piece of recall crap that it is.
  7. I'd say that it was their main sponsors request. Keeping it Black and White would be to similar to their competitor from the dark side.
  8. John Brumbies, he's always been a wa*ker and always will be. Steve Bracks what were you thinking leaving this nutter in charge.
  9. In my opinion not enough thought has gone into this idea. In principle it is heading in the right direction but unfortunately the concept has been thought up by do gooders and academics with no idea of the real world. Not all kids are hoons behind the wheel they infact use their cars to go about their daily lives to either educate themselves or earn a dollar. As we all know cars are getting more expensive to run many of these kids car pool as us adults do. To either go to work or Uni why did'nt they bring in restricted times and days. eg. 6am-7pm mon-fri upto 4 people to allow for car pooling. Between the hrs of 7pm-6am bring in the new rules, I have no issue with that at all. And would'nt be any harder to police than the new law. All your going to see is more cars on the road and this could result in more accidents. The only way to reduce accidents is to educate the young drivers, reduce traffic numbers and improve our roads Why does Government take the easy option (lets put more restrictions on the population that'll teach em)?
  10. Thanks again guy's for all your help I really apppreciate it. Fuel reg is coming off Saturday. Where can I find the formulae for working out the correct scale for these injectors. And I'll certainly be looking into the knock boxes as well could be cheap insurance macka
  11. Hi all, we are starting to make some progress with our tuning, had our first kills, one skyline and a BF GT. I have'nt changed much, just a bit of fine tuning on the fuel map. Still running same boost level approx 6 psi. Even though I have'nt had any experience with tuning other than watching closely and asking heaps of questions while at the tuners as they tuned my ute and 30 years experience tinkering with cars mainly V8's, It certainly feels good that we are making some good gains. Once we are satisfied that we have reached our limits and finished the intake mods, we'll be taking it to the dyno to really see what's in this engine.
  12. Thanks for the help Rapid, Tthe rising rate is a vortech 12:1. I was looking at the software options last night in the trim section and they have an injector scaling option. It's currently set at 40 options are 0 - 80 this is what they say in the help section. "E.G. scale number of 40 = 20mS max injector opening @ 0% Fuel Map override setting. Note: As a guide, the injector time scale should be set between 10 and 30 when in multi point 360 mode and between 40 and 80 when in multi point 720 mode. If you find that you need to go above or bellow this range you may need to change injector size or there is a problem in the fuel delivery system." The only problem that I can see is we're pushing in to much fuel becuse of the reg. My thoughts are that even if we up the boost level to use the extra fuel the reg will only throw in even more fuel. I know at some point all this will even out. I've even thought about putting another bleed valve on the reg but that's just adding another variable to sort out. Anyway back to the injector scale time. I am running the engine in multi point 720 mode. So I am assuming that if we keep the fuel reg I would have to reduce scale time. The data logging indicates that we only using 12 ms. Any suggestions would be appreciated. macka
  13. We went out this arvo to do some open road cruise tuning, 80, 90 through to 110 km/h. We have the engine running nicely returning 14.7 A/F ratios. We then started tuning part throttle acceleration 80 - 110 km/h. We have made some good gains in performance without running extra boost, I must say this thing definately has more grunt than my ute did running same boost levels. 80 - 110 is effortless. Economy is great as well we drove from Mildura to Renmark and back approx 240km round trip and did'nt even use a 1/4 tank of fuel it was a pretty hot day as well intake temps were in the mid 40's just cruising and rose up to mid 50's during acceleration runs. As I said, we have made some goods performance gains I'd say from experience somewhere close to 220rwkw. We still have the rising rate fuel reg hooked up as well as the 42lb injectors and we were unable to pull enough fuel out of the map on acceleration runs could'nt get the A/F ratios leaner than low 10's. only using 12 ms of injector duty cycle. We have decided to remove the rising rate reg now we have fitted the larger injectors. The fuel map is looking like Niagara Falls where we have tried to remove fuel instead of it looking like Mt Everest. We have'nt had much of a play with timing at this stage as suggested by Mr Bean we're working on the fuel map first. According to the data logging we are running 21.4 deg @ 3000 rpm and 6psi of boost there is no detonation at this point so we added about another 7% trim and there was still no detonation. We have decided, though to set ignition trim back to 0 % until we sort the fuel map out properly. That's about all I have to report for the moment I'll keep ya's posted once we remove the fuel reg. Really can't wait until we can through some decent boost into the engine but we'll keep taking small steps for now. cheers Macka
  14. Thanks Guy's will chech over connections again. I'm not sure of the actual brand of the waste gate but I will have a closer look so that I can source a stiffer spring. all I know is that it's opprox 40mm. EBC sounds like the way to go as well I'll check out some Jap halfcut importers cheers and thanks for you help again macka
  15. Thanks for your advise I'll take it on board. On another note we are having trouble get the boost over 7 psi. The external waste gate has been set at 7.5. We have tried a neumatic bleed valve but that does'nt seem to change boost like it does with an internal wastegate. We want to up the boost to 15-18 psi what are our options.
  16. Bugger does anyone know how I can rotate this pic
  17. Hi guy's it's been awhile so I thought I'd let you know what's happening with my son's EL conversion. Since we last posted we have installed my EMS stinger that I had on my XR6Turbo and fitted 42lb injectors. I've basically been doing some cold and hot start tuning and some cruise tuning. I'd say even with my basic tuning knowledge skills the car has increased in power by a good 40rwkw. I've kept the A/F ratios fairly rich at around 11.2 on eccelaration pulls. Timing advance @ 30 deg. No pinging yet, even in Mildura's hot weather. We have'nt played with increased boost yet either. We plan on putting back on the dyno once we finish the new intake. We may even wait a little longer till after we fit a new plenum chamber. Which reminds me I must ring Pazaman and maniac they have something of interest. I scanned the base dyno run still using the standard ECU and injectors and rising rate fuel reg. We tried 2 runs had to do one in second gear because the auto wanted to keep kicking back down from third gear. We eventually got a run in 3rd buy ramping up slowly until we reached 140km then give it wot. both figures were pretty compariable both producing just under 180 rwkw @ 6.5 psi. Torque is a very impressive 1200 nm still looking for this dyno sheet to prove this figure will post if as soon as I find it. I'd be interested in your comments and we look forward to putting it back on the dyno soon once we finish our other mods for a more serious power run.
  18. Ford have know about the new car for some time. It should have been ready for the start of the season. Expensive Daewoo got their sh#t together in time for the new saeson last year. Just another example of Ford sitting on their arse playing tiddly winks.
  19. The best way to run it in is to drive it like you stole it. nobody drives them like a nana and you certainly wont if you plan on using a flash tuner. give it 3000 km before edit my OP only
  20. I know it's an old thread I did'nt realise he sold his car but it would have been good to here how it all turned out and have an end result to the thread he started. I'm looking for plenum options for my son's EL turbo conversion. Anyone that has a spare one that they've made and would like to sell please send me a pm cheers macka
  21. F6, I was just doing some searching about plemum and happened across your thread. It's been nearly 12 months since the creation. You were gunna post some dynos comparisions, do you still have them I would like very much to see them. Did you get around to building your second creation? What happened was it better? cheer macka
  22. I personally did'nt buy my XR6T on the grounds of how quick it's 0-100 times were. I was more interested in how the the car performed in everyday driving ie. 0-60 km/h and 80-120km. The fact that the car satisfied my expectations and was $5000 cheaper than the XR8 and just as quick was the reason behind my purchase. This satisfaction only increased as I began to modify and increase the cars power. I personally favour the rolling start before flooring it. The push you back in the seat and sheer acceleration has always been my preferance compared to a standing start. I'm not interested in what some stupid motor mag write up says. Most write ups are bias in someway and are never on a level playing field. The best test is in your own seat of the pants experience. If you like it buy it. If not try something else.
  23. Yeh, we wanted to run the ED/EB inlet but there was going to to much work involved with the A/C. Plan to eventually use a different plenum similar to Nizpro or something. thanks for the advise macka
  24. I don't know where certain governments get this idea that they should make money from these events. It's the same over hear with GP which I personally never watch. I could'nt careless how much it costs the tax payer. They are providing entertainment for their constituents. And lets face it we get sweet F A in return for our tax dollars that you can actually see. And we all know that they don't mind putting their collective snouts in the trough. The money they blow on overseas roughts during the year would more than fund the V8 event.
  25. We've had the engine fully rebuilt and blue printed, balanced etc. Kept the standard rods shot peened and linished the crank. We have also fitted ACL 8.5:1 forged pistons. I've heard the bottom ends are reasonably tough. We also had a budget to stick to, would have like to fit forged rods I think this combo should run 15-18 psi with a good tune safely. It will be interesting to see how much grunt we can make. I can't see the auto holding together very long with the amount of torque it pushing out. Rapid what would you consider safe A/F ratios under load. Mildura is pretty hot this time of year high 30's low 40's most days. I've heard 12.5:1 but I'm thinking closer to 12 would be safer. macka
