Amazing Tsunami Video

I am still shaking my head at this. If you want some context of how horrific this was, download this video. Finally for me, it shows the POWER of the water and why there was so much damage and loss of life.

Newspaper and TV images just don't convey it as this video does.

Amazing.... I am almost lost for words.

Sorry, the word amazing seems so shallow, but I am truly gobsmacked at this.

it's just unfortunate that as this hadn't happened before people simply weren't ready... honestly, if that guy had known the power of a tsunami I don't think he would have stood where he was...

I don't pray.. but I do hope we can all send some thoughts to those that are in need... it's only going to get worse unfortunately.

that's quite incredible. It lets you appreciate how high the water was in relation to the street. Unbelievable tragedy that makes me appreciate living in southern Australia where we are removed from such events and other natural threats such as cyclones etc. Unbelievable the power of mother earth when things are out of alignment.

Agreed, shocking stuff. Not exactly a tsunami in the way we imagine, just a relentless rising tide which keeps rising and rising. Possibly an unfortunate experience for the old couple in the clip...looked grim for them.

Agreed, I think that's the thing that's so shocking about this clip, you see the actual effect of the slow rise. All the media clips I've seen to date just show a small 'wave' breaching the shore and then great expanses of flooded areas. This clip actually shows the destruction and the power of the water. Anyone who's seen NW tides rushing in or out would know what I mean.

I have watched the vid and some news and I still don't think I have any real concept of the fear and disbelief the victims would have experienced as the torrents of water continued to rise and rush towards them.

On a more positive note if there is one, it is good to see countries pitch in together to assist. I heard tonight that Australians have donated over 2 million dollars.

I agree we are lucky here "downunder" .....(so far)???
