after playing around with the edit we have gone as far as the turbo and maybe cams will let us so it time for some serious mods engine out for some rods etc.

and some turbo mods will keep fellow forum members up to date as we go

Just to be sure I understand that dyno graph.....you take off, hit 2700rpm, and the warp drive immediately engages, set to Warp 10?

That is totally insane.

something like that but its when she hit 3000 HANG ON :kissmy::kissmy:

To get that sort of a ramp up in power she must have an insane amount of torque at that point..... Like I said earlier, totaly awesome.

Hi BadXR6,

That's an impressive rwkW you've screwed out of your XRT. What I noticed is how much your power climbs from 2700 RPM (108 rwKw) to 3600RPM (306rwKw). It's like a light switch !

I'm wondering what you've got for your timing in this area (coming on to boost). There reason I ask, is that I think that perhaps it's not quite ideal. I'm not trying to dump on you or anything but when I compare my dyno graph shape and power to yours, you'll see what I mean. If you could bring up the mid/low range power a bit more you'd have a truely awesome power delivery.

Here's what I'm talking about:

RPM , Yours (rwkw) , Mine (rwKW)

1800, 54, 72

2700, 108, 163

3150, 174, 239

3600, 306, 280

4500, 380, 333

5400, 396, 354

You've definately got the top end power (you cap out at 397 rwKW and mine is 358 rwKw), but in the low range (under approx 3500 RPM), it's in my favour.

I've attached my chart for comparison purposes. Now I'm not doing this to try and brag or some crap like that, I just thought you'd be interested, since this seems like an area you can add to the excellent package that you already have.

Cheers.

Robin.

I think maybe he's done the power curve like that to enhance his transmission/driving style..

Being a manual ( like yours ) you don't want a heap of grunt at lower revs, the tyres will just fry.

Maybe badxr6 has tuned his power to his traction. When his rears really hook up, it pours on the power and off she goes..

I am only guessing at this, and badxr6 can verify, but it makes sense to me anyway??

This is where the switchable map would come in handy. His map for drags, yours for circut work..

Hi Robin,

Im assuming that graph is your before and after tune with piggyback then edit. If this is the case can you post boost graphs as well? I'd like to see what increase in the power of your car is due to the edit alone and not an increase in boost.

Is your car also running stock internals?

thanks

Geeseman,

Sorry for the confusion. I don't have EDIT. The change in before/after you see is when I added an exhaust dump pipe.

Refer to http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15692 for details. Boost curves are also shown.

Yes, car runs stock internals. So power is now reached "my" safe limit before internal mods are required.

Cheers

Hi,

thanks for clearing that up. Did I not read on a forum that you had changed to the SMB dump pipe and it did not add much power? Your power has jumped 40rwkw from the previous map, and Im just wondering why its so.

How long has the car been at this power level? How does it feel?

thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

As detailed in http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=156 the power gained by the SMB was about 10 rwKW. But this was achieved with the car making about 310-320 rwKw. It is beyond this point the OEM exhaust restrictions starts to hold back the max power achievable.

In otherwords the rise in turbine backpressure now starts to severely limit the outright power. It is about at this point that in order to gain more power, and achieve this by increasing boost pressure (from say 12 psi to 15/16 psi), the reduction in backpressure really starts to help (ie. this is were the SMB dump pipe/cat really comes into it's own). Without it the corresponding increase in backpressure negates the gain achieved by the boost pressure increase.

So after fitting the SMB we up'd the boost to 15/16psi and topped out the rwkW at about 360 rwkW. This is 50 rwkW more than the previous tune and hence the delta you observed.

So the answer to your question is: Approx 3 to 4 psi more boost, but this power level could not have been achieved without a corresponding reduction in turbine backpressure provided by the SMB/cat package.

The car is wicked on the street (tuned to this level in early Feb). It fishtails when overtaking cannon fodder (ie HSVs). It sure gives them a shock when it smokes the tyres going past them, as it leaves them in a "cloud of SP9000"....

Let me know if I have confused you even more !!! And I'll try to explain it gain.

Cheers

Robin.

Good work Robin,

I have the aps exhaust but will probably look at a dump pipe addition in the future. My exhaust is 3.5 inch pipe from the stock dump pipe, so I might need to change this and the dump pipe to have it all fit together.

How is the noise in your current system?

#140

Steve,

I was very surprised when I fitted the SMB dump pipe and cat. The car was no louder than factory (at idle and light cruise). Absolutely no droning at all. The only difference is when you boot it, it's louder then. As it should be !!

Robin.
