your wrong azid but you just cant admit it

even garret says you dont need a TT

also who who flogs there car and then instanly turns it off???

no one that's who

How am I wrong tom? Im not that's why, all the facts have been said already if u havnt read them. Turbos are not meant to be driven then turned off straight away, where in the world is the oil gonna go? the 500degree water is gonna get rid of it right?

and how would you know what every single person does and how they drive there car, how they treat there car? Its the reason TT were invented, cause dumb ass's drive there car and turn it off straight away without letting it idle. It has NOTHING to do with whether your driving an xr6t or a damn turbo pulsar, its to do with the turbo mate.

Its already been said, no reason to try and throw your "knowledge" around of what u have read on garret, im bet garret didnt say drive ya car then turn it straight off, its all good. This whole thread is stating that Turbo Timers ARE to be used, IF you dont have the time to wait in your car, some people have a busy life and 30-45 seconds is a lot of time to them. if you have nothing that's actually informative then dont worry cause its not about xr6ts, its about turbos themselves and if u have the time to let it idle. If you idle ya car man then dont stress

I'll admit I did buy one before taking delivery of my car and still haven't installed it, however after reading the facts and waking up to the latest technology I'm going to sell it and put it towards a tune. (Let me know if you're in the market for one lol)

I may be interested my Kid wants Maccas tonight.

lol

what is the difference between letting your car idle idle for 30 seconds over just letting the watercooling do its job??

wouldnt it do exactly the same thing exept your motor is running??or does hot oil still run through the turbo??

from autospeed

suposedly they make your car super easy to steal aswell

And if you've got a turbo car, you're sure to have been told that a turbo timer is a good idea. You know, to give time for the turbo to cool down and so stop frying the oil in the turbo bearing after you switch off. Well, I think that turbo timers are a total waste of money. I'll go further - they also make your car easy to steal.

So why are they a waste of money? If your car has a water-cooled turbo (all turbo cars of recent times), the heat build-up in the bearing after switch-off isn't so terrible - the water transfers the heat away. The use of synthetic oil also reduces the likelihood of oil coking - and all turbo cars benefit from the safety of running a synthetic. And finally, if you've been driving your car hard, exactly what is the problem in sitting in your car for a minute or two while it idles? You can then let the engine cool down for as long as needed - and it doesn't cost you a cent.

And easier for thieves? Remember that a turbo timer is an ignition switch bypass. That means that a thief spotting a turbo timer prominently mounted on the dash only has to pull out the wires leading to the box to have ready-made access to an ignition jump-starter. And that doesn't even include the vulnerability of leaving your car idling when you wander off!

In six turbo cars I've owned I've never fitted a turbo timer - and one is just passing 170,000 of mostly urban kilometres with the original (and boosted!) turbo still happily in place. In summary - why'd you bother?

That's not applicable to these cars with the coded keys though....not something you can hotwire.

And if someone flogs it while it's running they've got a minutes (or whatever the timer is set at) worth of driving :spoton:

I thought people were saying they could only lock there car with the keys and not the buttons

I dont know if that makes any difference??

doesnt matter as I'l never run one anyway

So should I get a turbo timer? Or is it ok without one?
