on another note just google xr6t turbo timers and you will find 100's of topics stating that there is no need for one

people want then for safety yet they run generic tune's

I saw a cut and paste from the Garrett website yes? And since the creation of water cooled turbochargers there may be no need for LENGTHY run down times. Just so we are clear on this yes?, I dont believe Garrett at any stage mentioned the assistance of "Thermosyphon" as having anything to do with it.. My whole point being.. My car doesnt have a Solar Hart hot water system and was not designed by a plumber, and water cooled turbos require LESS time to cool when the engine is STILL RUNNING, but can you say they definitely do NOT benefit from a turbo timer......?

No once again what Garrett said was : Water-cooling of the turbocharger's center housing has essentially eliminated the need for turbo timers.

And from a Garrett T25

The turbocharger bearings are supplied with an oil feed from the oil gallery cover at the right hand rear of the block, and an oil drain hose is provided to return oil to the left hand side of the sump. In order to help protect the turbocharger bearings from the effects of heat soak after the engine has been stopped, a water feed and return system is provided, and connected between the heater take-off at the rear of the block and the header tank. Water circulation around the bearings continues after engine switch off, by thermo-siphon action, and reduces the possibility of carbonization of the oil in the turbocharger.

If you would like me to waste some time tomorrow I will email Ford and get it in writing from them that thermo-siphon is real.

Then if Garret say you don't need a Turbo timer and Ford say that thermo-siphon occurs on xr6 turbos will you be happy then?

Ford have told me still need to idle down they never said turbo timers are a problem they never told me bout thermo syphen more the fact that they said these run very hot.

I see this thread has changed titles I was busy fitting a fuel pump in my gfs skyline when I came down to get drink mate told me to check this thread. I havent said any time that they are essential for a xr6 turbo mod I have simply stated reasons why people have used them and why I use one. I really still dont believe the thermo stuff, AFAIK People are using them for the right reasons and if they want let them be there are to many people on here who seriously have no idea.

No one on here has stated a stupid reason as to why they use it, so just sayin that there not nessacary makes you look like a parrot because you arent gonna change the people who use thems mind

Let them make there own decision and get over it, if u dont wanna buy one dont.

As sasha has said it says it helps with cooling doesnt say it makes it safe to turn it off and just let it cool itself. idling down is still a benfit to any turbo engine

If I have been beating my car I let it idle down for say 30 secs, if I have been driving it normally I turn it off straight away. Turbo timers for BA BF Turbo cars are a waste of money and fuel. And if you buy one you are a loser. ( fishing)

Yep I am over this thread too. If I look like a parrot for quoting the manufacturer of the turbo then so be it.

Early in the thread it was stated that people had no idea and thet there was no facts about not needing timers and no facts about thermo-syphon. One person says something and then everyone else copies.

Well I wasn't a parrot, I didn't just say they are not needed because everyone else did. I did some research and I have quoted Garrett as saying they are not needed.

Once again I have provided proof the thermo-siphoning on Garrett water cooled turbos does exist. I can not do any more.

I have never said don't get one, just don't get one and claim you did it because the car NEEDS IT.

You got it because it is rice or bling and it;s fully sik and skylines and silvias have them and they are cool at the local Maccas car park and that is fine, good luck to you. It is your car and being different is what makes the car scene so great.

I ran undercar neons a few years back because I tend to like rice and bling, but I was happy to admit that is why I did it.

End of the thread for me, I hope I have proved to anyone that was not sure that you do not NEED to buy one for your car, but if you WANT to then that's cool too

I didnt buy one cause im a ricer I got it for nothing an thought why not. I dont cruise with rexs or skylines I have owned a few of both also hand built with my old man a SR20DET MK 2 1980 2 door escort from the ground up that thing hauled I have a fair idea of whats goin on when talking about mechanical side of cars But im at uni continuing my study in oncology field and treatment of cancer yeh that's right im young. Cars are only a hobby and I will be the first to say im wrong when I am but I havent said once they are a must nor have I said anyone should get one this all started because some fools got on and wrecked a thread asking for placement locations and being told he is wasting his time.

I never ever told you I didnt believe what you had quoted I read the same info of garrett site as a full artical, I am not questioning your opinions or your views this is a public forum and people can say what they want and taking it with a grain of salt is usually what happens.

Seriously KS has gone off on a rant not once have I ripped into you I was keen to see the figures from your test of temps of water just out of curiousity as to see how good it works. I dont think youd bother with the testing now but not once have I had words about your cred or your comments
