My long term tidy up!
Entirely possible but I think its related to the surge tank install I carried out on the weekend.

My long term tidy up!
Took the sh*t box in today and come home, whole building smells on e85... Cars parked in the garage bellow all day. Go down and have a look, leaking from the main fuel tank. I can see drops from it around the metal skid pan but nothing when running. Parked the car outside for now but will need a more in depth look to see exactly where its coming from. Surely this would be an excess pressure issue as I did not disturb the tank in any way when fitting the surge. Car had a properly full tank on the way home.

All went smooth on the end. Started to run out of steam and left the in tank pump for another day. I checked fuel pressure at idle and it looked ok so I will aim to swap the lift pump mid week.

Tidy! Done it a few times by the look of it haha.. Ended up busting out the test ought and found it.

Hey dudes! Kinda urgent but not really... The surge kit didnt come with wiring instructions so I downloaded them from the Plazmamam website. Perhaps they are old or have changed but just wanting to confirm the purple wire goes to this pink wire. Fairly confident it does. I'm guessing they changed from red to purple so people wouldn't confuse 2 small red wires but yeah..

Opted for a pierburg in tank option and just picked this up. Should fit my needs perfectly.

Appreciate the response mate.. I can safely say I will never go for that power level so banging in a smaller pump looks like the best option.

Well overdue mate. Should have some time to fit it over the weekend and get it sorted. Should I leave the 460 in the tank or look at something smaller?

My long term tidy up!
Looked around for a decent used surge and didnt really find anything. Stuff missing, old pumps and hefty price tags so I decided to go new. Looked at the single 044 and thought for a little more I'll go with the single pierburg pump. Quality thing too bloody nice to hide under the car!

Oh nah I played with it well before the tune, haven't touched it since. Everything is the same just the head gasket job. I did connect the blow off valve back up but can't see that being connected to the issue. I must have fixed something along the way or the head gasket was an issue from the start. I've got a plan and have 2 things on my hit list for now, dyno time to check tune and a surge tank.

I did have a play with it yes when I did the engine swap. However I backed it off in an attempt to try and get it to crack open earlier to run lower boost. If I recall correctly I set the pre load to 1.5mm from 2.0mm. So even though it was supplied as the 12psi version, I couldn't get anywhere near that. I'm tipping it has a heavier spring because it appears to operate correctly in every other way.

Swapped out the solenoids and still over boosting. Looks like some dyno time is needed and check over the tune. Last night was cool and intake temps were low, even when I by passed the solenoid again it was making 1 or 2 more psi than the other night. Have you guys noticed changes in boost between summer and winter temps?

My long term tidy up!
Not much in terms of the boost issue. Driven the car a few times though and all running smooth on spring pressure. Boost and temp in check. The atomic bleeder valve rolled up today so I aim to check things out over the weekend.

Might see if I can dig out my old solenoid to test [emoji106][emoji106]

I haven't opened it up to confirm the spring but it was supplied as the 12psi version. At the last tune it was tuned at around 15.5 pounds and stayed solid at that boost level until just now since I did the head gasket. I changed the solenoid about a year ago so it hasn't done much work.

Yeah for sure.. I played around with this turbo smart actuator when I had it off and couldn't get it to go any lower. I'll probably go back to my stock actuator mate or maybe an fg one.

Well the cooling side of things are spot on now but the car sure is over boosting. Foot down 3rd gear and I got out of it straight away. The way the boost came on so quick and strong I backed off immediately. Look down over 20psi then look back to see my rods on the road, nothing luckily. Pulled up at the servo and bypassed the boost solenoid and run it on spring pressure and it kept solid on just under 16. Something has happened and I can't exactly figure out why.. Possibly the engine was hurt right from buying it from the wrecker or as puff mentioned that I fixed something. Either way some dyno time will be in order to correct the issue and this will be the perfect time to lower the boost down to 12 psi or so. For now I plan leave the solenoid disconnected.

Picked up a radiator 32mm variation, fresh hoses and the coolant bottle. The black one was giving me the sh*ts. Just about to head out and see how it goes.

My long term tidy up!
Entirely possible Puff. Fresh plugs and gap set yes, Didnt see anything extremely obvious but the inlet manifold bolts were not as tight as what I did them up to when I put the engine in probably that crappy gasket settling in. Will monitor when things get moving again and I can get this hose to stay on.

Don't go out of your way mate all good. I feel like for what I'll be doing with the car, the stock will be fine [emoji106]

Yeah I saw the fenix rad, looks like a nice bit. Was wondering about clearance issues. Will probably end up with a stock 32mm replacement at this stage. It says run #18 on the sheet. It feels the fastest its ever been. When I picked it up, it would dance on the tyres when getting on it but this is full blown wheel spin and then the hose pops off. I've got 2, pillar mounted and through the torque app. Highest registered was 16psi but again not accurate as the hose comes off. I didn't have a single issue with the hose since fitting it the way jet suggested and about 3 months driving since the tune. I will have to sort the rad out and look at it again. No ping detected.

My long term tidy up!
Been researching radiators and for a good reason. It appears someone has fitted an early ba possibly xt radiator at some point. I've driven the car again and gradually increased the boost. The car rips but it rips to the point where I think its over boosting. Blew the hose off the throttle body twice but getting on it, it starts to turn the tyres so easy in second which it didnt do before. A minute from home, the radiator top hose outlet gave up and the temp started to shoot up just as was coasting into the drive way. Managaned to cool it down pretty quick but what a frantic minute it was. Big fail.. So looks like new rad will be happening sooner rather than later and then move on to working out where all this crazy power has come from.
