  1. It slips on the 3-4 full throttle gear changes so is showing signs of being tired. By Holding up I mean it hasn't sent zf all over the princess highway kinda thing
  2. Thought I'd use up some of the left over power cable to make a tough engine-body earth cable for the hell of it. Cut it a bit longer the original so it sits a bit nice around the piping. I also managed to locate some wheels to replace my cracked xr8 18s. Not exactly my style however they were $400 and have Yokohama v105s fitted with atleast 80 to 90% tread, hard to pass up. Fronts needed a 6mm spacer to clear the brakes. Grip is quite impressive. Very very close to booking in the car somewhere to have the transmissions built. Still undecided on shop. I am capable of doing the r&r myself however don't want to take any chances if issues come up down the track. Wouldn't want a 'you fitted it incorrectly' situation. So looking at the whole r&r, build, tune deal. Really want to send it down the track with some confidence.
  3. Been a minute, transmission is continuing to hold up well but has had limited abuse. I'm ready to pull the trigger just can't decide on who to go with. Some minor house keeping has taken place replacing the high pressure power steering line. I changed the main o ring a few times but it was the internal o ring on the fitting which had given up. Unfortunately I have noticed a crack in one of the spokes of the xr8 rim. With the way the roads have been in Sydney lately, I haven't been driving the car much in fear of the rim exploding. Disappointing that old mate hid this from me when selling. Ive found a guy who is confident to repair it just waiting for the right time to get the tyres off, repaired and new tyres fitted. I'm also trying to hunt down decent priced 18 inch rims the clear brembos but not having much luck. Next up was getting the battery to the boot as finally the 50mm2 cable rocked up fairly tidy install with p clamps and cable ties for back up. The car cranks a little stronger now which is also welcome. Antz performance turbo side intake went in too. Not sure if I'm set of the massive dose but when cruising around its fine.
  4. Yeah I can see that working no drama at all. Is he referring to a 2k clear over acrylic? I've read in the past of people doing it with good results.
  5. No clear, just polished the acrylic base coat.
  6. Exactly this 'good from afar'. Which is fine for now, the car lives outside so a killer paint job would be very hard to keep mint when its exposed to the elements 24/7 In bed for a day, dead tired, full body aches but woke up next day ready for action! Think I will do an interior detail tomorrow, keep me busy.
  7. Avoided the plague for 2 years and it finally got me. Put me in bed for a day super tired and achey and then decided while off for a few days it was best to visit a sore spot. The paint work. I was never really happy with the finish I got and kinda gave up. I hit it again starting with some very aggressive sanding starting from 400 right up to 3000. The paint always had a porous finish which I never properly levelled down. This made it really easy for the paint to get crap in it and hard to clean. Its by no means a top end finish but much smoother and finished with a heavy cut compound and sealed with turtle wax seal and shine. I feel now with regular washing it will look much more respectable for longer and easier to wash. Snuck in a small headlight polish while I was at it. I've also got one of the bikes up for sale and the sale of that will cover the cost of a built zf. Really want to drag race the car and lay down some numbers reliably. In prep for zf and retune I have ordered an antz turbo side intake and arranged all the parts I need to get the battery in the boot.
  8. Having a quick look this morning for some real world reviews, they sound the biz though. Ive had carbon ceramic pads in the bikes before and they appeared to be easy on rotors but fairly heavy on dust. Possibly an easy compound on rotors but pad wears out quicker.
  9. Fitted up some brembo 4 piston fronts and ba xr8 18s.. When I read the xr8 wheels will fit over the brembos, I decided they were the best rim to keep with the sleeper theme as they are not very 'look at me' fancy or anything. The goal was to get them on and bled then see how it feels. Will need new pads at a minimum but the current ones have enough life in them to drive the car for a few months while I research which pad I'm going to go with. Any recommendations for a street pads that can handle the odd windy road would be good. Will probably end up rebuilding the calipers and then painting them black so they just blend in and don't look too visible. Trying to sell a few bikes atm which should cover an upgraded zf. I really want to drag race the car this year with some confidence.
  10. Few hits and misses but car is humming along. The car has developed a damp smell in the last few days and I've started my search to see what's going on. I did wash it last weekend pretty thoroughly so hard to know if I have jammed water in at some point. My buddy's BA has some rust holes under the wipers in the scuttle area and his car fills up with water on the passenger front. I looked at mine and it was mint, could probably even rule it out. Carpets feel dry everywhere I looked so I might need to do some more searching. The roof rack clamps do squash the door rubbers so removing them could be a start. Its raining here in Sydney atm so hoping its easy enough to find. I felt the ac wasn't working as good as it should so had it re gassed. In all the tinkering I've done with the car I have never once looked at the air con and sure enough it was low on gas. So pull gas, 20 minute vacum and gas up. Its cold as now! I also had this issue when I would start the car and the air-conditioning was on it would make this large thump around the passenger floor area or left side firewall. That has disappeared too, win! Checking out the heater hoses and they are looking pretty average. I some how ended up with the t piece hose already so picked up the second one and will aim to change them soon. Thought I scored a killer deal on a set of 4 bf sr wheels but 2 of them are buckled and 1 is an egg. Big fail!
  11. This kit was for the power steering pump not the rack. Never actually got around to fitting the pump that I ran this kit through as the ebay pump I used became quiet all of a sudden. I think you will need to look at a rack swap to fix your problem mate.
  12. Ouch.. what's the chance of valve to piston contact
  13. I just noticed a lot of the bearing kits come with it so easy done.
  14. I battle with this problem all the time, spend more and build it up to handle more or keep it simple and around the power level it has now. Trouble is the flow on from more power. Fuel system upgrades, turbo charger, higher chance of breaking stuff transmission etc just adds up to more dollars which I just can't swing and realistically don't need. I still run an under battery intake and a questionable cooler which they rate for 400rwkw so it's surely on the limit as it is. This is more of a chance for us to get together for some garage time and with no certain plan to actually get it in the car. I must be confusing a 360 thrust and a torrington bearing if the 360 is an easy fit, its going in for sure. [emoji106]
  15. So me and my best mate are going to have a crack at rebuilding my old turbo motor. The plan is simple with a budget garage style rebuild with a few extras thrown in. Currently looking at options for who can do some good machine work on the block, crank and head. Anyone have any suggestions for a Sydney based machine shop? The aim is to stay around the high 300 low 400rwkw and use the crank and turbo rods. The pistons are cactus and thinking of using a set of genuine cast pistons. Then go for valve springs, head studs and ml gasket, oil pump gears, full gasket kit, timing chain kit, new rod bolts, rings and bearings. Gap rings accordingly and triple check bearing clearances etc. Anything worth addressing in the engine, any tricks. I don't see a need for upgrading the rods or 360 degree thrust for this power level and no clear goal for drag racing the car but happy to hear any input. Cheers!
  16. hanks for the wise words mate although I don't recall asking.
  17. 4 piston brembo finally on! This is a proper bitsa setup with mc22 cbr250 wheel, lathe turned wheel spacers, laser cut disc adaptor. The caliper bracket was listed for an rm250 but it appears the drz shares the same lower leg and a new caliper from Gawanlochs. Huge amount of stopping power and great feedback at the lever. Bike could do with a few more ponies though.
  18. Appreciate the update a lot mate #thanks #blessed
  19. Hey all, website down? Having issues something about http.
  20. I can only imagine how many f bombs were dropped You got me on car sales looking at TT's haha
  21. Did this at the start of the year check out the discussion and pics here from page 16. In terms of gas engine and turbo engine - every thing is a straight swap. Use you turbo and inlet manifolds, turbo sump and use your gas long engine. So you buy your gassy and get head studs + gasket, oil pump gears + backing plate and valve springs. Then gaskets - rocker cover, sump, timing chain, inlet etc. If you are diy at home you will also need some sort of tool to remove the valve springs and a harmonic balance removal tool, service manual for torque specs, engine stand and crane. Dyno tune would be 100% needed if your motor pooped its pants and you might want to consider the idea of running the car on e85.
