I went for a dabble down freo again late sunday arvo. you wouldn't believe it, I got wiped out by that same whopper flathead down in the leuwin boat pens. the thing hits like a freight train and ran for deeper water. only stayed connected to it for around 30 seconds to a minute before bust off. 10lbs leader just isn't enough, he saws straight through it. got the leader back and inspected it, the last 6 to 8 inches is chaffed to bugger causing the bust off. I'll put it down to being a big flathead over a mulloway or gaint herring, since flathead seem to be the more territorial of the species and a giant herring would have just spooled my on light spin gear. either way, to encounter the same bust off in exact same spot is pretty interesting. I think its time to up the stakes and bring down a more hefty outfit to do battle with this guy. hopefully this is his hangout and I can get stuck into him again! Old Man Flathead 2 : Bonza 0

count me in... ive been trying to plan a proper fishing trip for ages now. always wanted to fish the monte bellos or rowley shoals but it works out to almost $1000 a day, fark that. looks like the next best alturnitive is the mackerel islands off onslow. works out to about $1500 for a week accom. with dhingy supplied. just have to get yourself to onslow.

I'm very keen to participate but can't make it on such short notice. I'm even a member of the fpv tickford club (event organisers) and only received notice of this event a few weeks back. Track days require organisation of things like a fresh pads, brake fluid and a service. It's often hard to get all this done on such short notice. Holding such an event so early in the year probably doesn't help either, not to mention holding it on a long weekend! I dunno, maybe im just too busy. I'll be sure to have my sh#t organised in readiness for next time.

You lost a Spaniard! That sucks, I feel you're pain mate. They reckon the last few months we've had warmer than usual currents sweeping down the WA coast which has bought the Spanish Mackerel further south and into metropolitan waters. Wish I had a boat :(
