XR6 Turbo Fuel Consumption: Real-World Economy Figures
OK...the old fuel consumption issue!!!!! I have a bewtiful 2004 MK1 Manual 5 speed which has clocked up 60k klms and is used as a work car - my company went to Holdens for their fleet. It's always run on premium fuel. I regularly check my fuel consumption and in city driving I average at 13 lts per 100...out on the open road from Perth to Albany the average drops down to 10.8. I would take it back to Ford and get them to check the fuel filter, injectors, plugs, air filter and mix...is it sooty around the exhaust? - rich mixture can blow away your consumption figgures... Good luck....the T is a great car and should return 6 economy with the occassional boot full of v8 power! Snail

4 Beeps After Trying To Start The Car..
No system big enough yet to run the turbo with injected system. There is old style system that are bigger enough but they will not be adr and emissions complaint so are illegal. Ian ← there is a gas system that uses dual fuel gas for normal power levels and petrol for when max power is required changes as you go. ← Happened to me today in my T. Just finished a drive down to Bunbury ( 2 hours south of Perth ) and had a meeting that went for 2 hours - got back in and would not start the first or second time - then those fourbeeps! This has happed three or four times now - T is due for 60k service + I'll let them try and fix it! Snail

Am I Dreaming
OK we all know that uncle Johnny has given us all a $2k incentive to convert to gas and pull himself out of the manure on petrol prices. Whats new? Over here in the wild west our govt has just put in another $1k so that a conversion will cost you zilch! Why question is this.....can our beloved XR6T run on dual fuel like the Mitsu Tritons and what are the ramifications? Do we need to increase compression ratios? Do we need a special head? Do we need a boot? Can it be done??? I mean just imagine going the A-B stuff on gas and the open road on petrol!! Am I dreaming?? Snail

Ve Ss Is Fast!
I have to buy into this VE vs Ford crap..... we all know that the AU was a piece of marketing wank that got caught in the act.......a la the french turd who redesigned the poor old Magna! Ford moved on and were forced to create the beautifull BA/BF. Handling + grace = successful car. If the VE is as good as our friends on LS1 tell us it is, it will help retain some local parts suppliers vs China and Thailand and it will force Ford into the same type of upgrade with Orion..guess what...we all win! My bet is on Orion having to offer a high tech diesel option, a performance based gas option and a seriously motor optioned V8 - the turbo competition from Expensive Daewoo will come in the form of the VE2....watch this space for a twin turbo from both sides of the fence within 3 years! Meanwhile...nearly every upgrade creates a better car...build a bridge and get over it! Snail

Sunroof

New Tyres
Guys...my five cents worth. Just got a new rear set for the T after putting up with the SP9000 for 40ks. They last but are shocking in the wet! Anyway I have invested a great deal of net time investigating consumer reports re performance tyres and have gone with the Goodyear Eagles F1 245/40/18. Great looking tyre...softish compound......sensational handling.....tyre life in front of Michelins and Pirellis! Here endeth the lesson. Snail

Wa Cruises
OK Guys...here's my $0.20 + GST.... An overnight cruise with partners is on the surface a great idea, however, my SWMO (she who must be obeyed ) would rather eat rusty razorblades than listen to us T Guys discussing the finer points of rotors et al. However, if we were to produce an agenda which included shoving them into a spa and french mud boutique or some such at some point of the cruise you might stand a chance! We could include a winery for those of the fair sex who gargle that sort of stuff. Winter gives us a chance to cruise to destinations that are a bit left field. I don't know about you..but a great pub meal next to a roaring fireplace in Corrigin, Katanning or Narogin would be a bit different than the ole mail route to Bunbury. Well I'm out of change... Snail

Manual Gear Skirt
I never thought I'd say this but I do not enjoy the sight of a split skirt! What I am refering to is the annoying habit of my leather skirt thingy that surrounds my gearstick continually splitting. It seems always to split on the console side not the seat side - if that makes sense. Has anyone else had this pain in the skirt - and can anyone come up with a solution? My lovely XR6T is only 18 months old and I have had to get Ford to replace it 3 times! Frustrating to say the least! Appreciate your assistance. Snail

Ba Mk 1 Quality
Couldn't agree more with the "bang for your buck" comment! Checked out a mates Audi 1.8T and mine had better seats, better driving position, acceleration especially a rolling start killed the Audi handled as well...just didn't have the badge! Sometimes we don't appreciate what we've got...mates had drive train issues, interior fitment issues and is shredding tyres after 20k...all for $60k Snail
