  1. I think it looks the goods. Better fuel economy is definate plus (better than the opposition as well!). I'd like a bit more info (I think we all do) where do we get it? Anyone know the gearing for the 6 speed auto (I hope it's got a really short 1st gear, is that to much to ask? not like the six speed manual I hope) Anyone know if the ECU has changed? I was under the understanding from the the mk 1/2 turbo project manager at ford that the current (mk 1/2) ecu couldn't adjust the cam timing, but now it's being adjusted. Hope this doesn't cause to much trouble with the editors. Only a matter of time until they'd crack it anyway I guess. In the interest of continuos evolution, I'd like to see the "cammer" 5.0l DOHC alloy blocked (94mm bore, 90 mm stroke) 7,000 rpm, 373kw engines fitted to the GT's and detuned for the xr8 (matches the M5's v10 without the multi throttle body's or vct, not a bad effort from similar displacement!). Good to see the sohc v8 pushing more power, but that stroke just isn't the ticket for big horsepower.
  2. little sick of hearing about motor magazine, as they always seem to find the holdens faster, where wheels tends to find the fords faster. To have any credability, the drivers need to be racing car drivers, ie someone like John Bowe testing the ford's and say Mark skaife in the holden's. Atleast then the times achieved would have some credibility as a representative of the cars performance. There's no way known a Expensive Daewoo clubsport is that much quicker than a GT. Could believe 2 - 4 tenths, but the times listed are a joke! Anyone else noticed this, or am I being paranoid (I get the feeling that the tester's are far more familiar with Late model camira v8's than the rest of the australian performance cars). My 2 cents..
  3. Just wondering, has anyone seen a mag do a test on a mk2 6 sp manual with the factory 18's? The best time I've seen has been a 14.54 with 17's against the Typhoon, however the mk1 with the 5 sp and 18's ran 14.14. Just wondering if the wider, lower profile tyres are the difference or the gearbox. Maybe it's about time ford made 18's standard (mk3?), and/or a mag tested the car with 18's, since all it's competitors have 18's (except the budget "sv" commodores). I'm interested as I'd love a manual, but given I'm looking at getting about 280 - 300 rwkw's and expect the auto to be quicker, and if I get an auto it will be the zf 6 sp. Decisions, decisions...
  4. Firstly I want to say this is not an add and just an enquiry. Had a look on the powerchip website and apparently they'll reflash the computer on xr6t's (270 95ron, 300 98ron) typhoons (302) & 4 cam v8's (260 - 280/6, 290 - 319) for $890, and the na 6 (182 - 194/8) for $690. Realise they are not custom tuned to the car, but wondered if anyone has any experience with this. The edit may still be worth the extra $800 for a custom tune, but I'm considering this. Maybe someone can test it in the name of r&d and let us know
  5. After looking at the dyno graph, peak power's pretty much made at 2700rpm! What's stoping the power production from then on? exhaust? intercooler? It looks like there's plenty of room to improve on the 285rwkw's given how quickly it's made. I'm interested because I've been considering the same same kit, but am not in any rush to modify just yet
  6. a stock ef fairmont is quicker than any na vt v6. Vt v6's are slow, I remember them being quoted 0-100 in 9.8, where ef-au were about 8.7-9 (both stock, 6 and auto). Another thing, has anyone seen the performance figures for the 175 alloytech commodore's? I haven't, so perhaps they ain't that good, cause the I know the 190 is/was nothing flash.
  7. Has anyone considered using a 727 torqueflite? These have backed hemi dragsters in the states and are yet to be bettered (the gearbox in a mainstream prduct). Have seen a powerglide fitted to a 600+hp turbo ute, but the torqueflite is the best auto box available (IMO). I think you'd be better off spending 1-2k on one of these than the stock box, and they're so much better than the powerglide (no contest). What keeps breaking in the ford (BTR) auto? Is the xr8 auto any beter than the xr6's? Good luck with finding something to handle the engine with over 50% more boost!
  8. yeah, but how much boost are they running and what power are the turbo's capable of? I'll bet the holden's running 10+psi and that they're poor quality cheap sh*ty turbo's (not 700hp capable like the 240t). I'll watch with interest but until proven otherwise, xr6t is king. Also, subaru's have got high compression (8.7/9.0) and run more boost (about 15[who nows are cares]/6) yet they're no faster than the "heavy" xr6t. Run the same boost (lower compression aside) and the 240t is so much quicker it ain't funny (talking 12s v 14's, porsche turbo v boxter sort of comparison) Whilst ford have retarded the output from the factory, plenty of people are able to level the playing field to the point the the 240t is so much faster, it just doesn't seem fair on all the other carmarkers. Anything they can do, ford can do better. Half the things ford can do, they can't do at all!
  9. That's a very good time, and from Gea's post, in colder conditions it should get even quicker! I'd like some more info on the ute, where abouts can I get it? I.e. an exhaustive list of what has been done to it. Is it running stock cam shafts? Stock exhaust manifold? If so, I'd love to see Nizpro get serious and look at these, then you'd probably looking at low tens/high nines given how restrictive the cams are, they're identical to the N/A aren't they? Amazing a car can pull these numbers with the same lift/duration of valve opening into the cylinder chanber IMO. Keep up the good work, I'd love to see a hero car (I.e. an xr6t) running much closer to the limit to show everyone how good these things are (that don't already know!)
  10. Personally, I'd love to see FPV make a limited run of non restricted, no excuses all out 4.0l turbo's. The excuse that a turbo six shouldn't be quicker than they're v8 is crap, they are so close now (in detuned form) it doesn't matter. Anyone interested in straight line performance buy's a turbo or chev powered Late model camira anyway, so why try and and make your v8's out to be something they're not. I hope ford wake up and relise that the 4.0 turbo is they're best chance of swaying buyers of other marques, and that sitting on your hands gets you no where. XR6 IMO should have 270KW, and typhoon should have 330 to 350. Ford seem to happy to match Holden, why not give them something to chase for a change? KW's is the easiest way to steal holden, HSV and other buyers, especially when they're so easy to extract (parts for above KW's would cost SFA, replacing poor parts with good ones). I just hate to see ford producing below they're potential, and making other manufacturers lives' easy. My 2 cents, hopefully Ford are thinking similarly

    Xr6t

for me it's simple: -power -torque -acceleration -having wanabe's rush up beside you at the lights, and -the turbo badge To be totally honest, the list goes on
  12. I think that those times are probably more real world performance figures, and it's important to remember that it's all relative. I'm impressed that the GT is as quick as the LS2 over the quarter, and a good driver would have the typhoon all over the pair of them. Shows that the holdens fast times rely hevily on the hard launch, and that the GT is more than a match for on road performance. Off idle from a standstill, Expensive Daewoo v8's are just crap.
  13. I agree with Typhoon, How many times have Expensive Daewoo changed their engines out put; 225, 235, 245, 250 and that's just in the SS, all the time the xr8 has remained at 260. Where's it going to end? We all know Ford and GM are capable of producing engines well over 1,000 hp, so if one (Expensive Daewoo particularly)keeps trying to out do the other, where does it stop? We'll end up like Japan, with kw and speed limiters on all cars - and perhaps that wouldn't be such a bad thing given fuel and the R&D invovled with new engines. Car markers would be better off improving the efficiency of what they have (Ford & Holden) than making more power.

    VZ HSV LS2

Why are holden's talked up here? OK, they are quicker than they were before, but really it's just more of the same - alloy block reliability issues, pushrods and 16 valves. An exhaust and chipped typhoon is always going to beat an exhaust/chip LS2. And twin turbo v8 380rwkw? EXAR6 you have that now, what's the point? Buy a mark 2 xr6t and fit the NIZPRO 1000hp engine - similar level off modification/cost (about $75k). Not that everyone is interested in maximum performance, but just making the point that an LS2 in detuned form as you people carry one still needs more parts and money to match the turbo - pretty simple, fundamental stuff. Compare apples with apples:kissmy: As for fords v8's, anyone seen the new 5.0 DOHC SVT cobra? This has 313kw's standard (4.6l stroke with bigger bore). I'd like to see some Aussie 5.4's fitted with the bigger bore setup. Provided 73kw increase over 4.6, expect the same or more on the 5.4 (about 6 litres). The 4.6 has the same bore as our 5.4 for those who don't know. As for outright power, the turbo 4.0l's are testimate to fords reluctance to put max performance on the showroom (for political/safety issues), however an aftermarket tuner can unleash a heap of no fuss horsepower and performance through the computer, injectors etc etc
  15. Wouldn't it be user to take the speed travelled in second gear of the current car and adjust it for the chage in ratio? ie speed of mk2 second = speed of mk1 second x (3.45/3.73) x (mk1/mk2 second gear). If I had the numbers, I'd do it my self, pretty simple
  16. Is driveline shunt really that bigger deal? I drive an auto, but from my experience it is not a major problem (makes you feel more in control, and freer flowing I reckon). I read earlier someone said they shouldn't have changed the gearbox, thought that was quite amusing (I can't see 6 speeds being replaced by 5 speeds, not like the 5 speeds being replaced by 6 speeds before fords release). And the brakes are more than acceptable IMO, stops as well as any other car on the market at a similar price. Quite frankly, you sound like your trying to fault a very good car. I mean, the BA is a brilliant car and these issues are simply unavoidable. We're talking a 350hp engine in a 1800kg car, the gearbox has to be extremely strong and if that means it doesn't feel like a four cylinder box, so be it, at least it'll go the distance. Any mention of the 0-100/400 times of the BA2? I find this far more interesting
  17. LS1's detuned? They're running higher compression and premium unleaded compared to the XR8. The BA's weight is overstated, the Motor Aussie Rules issue made that clear. Also the V8's are running 3.23 final drives. Hardly stressed. Has anyone fitted lower diff gears to the BA 8's? What were the results? That would be the first thing I'd do. And the XR8 is stuff all slower than the SS sedan, and quicker than the SS utes and Monaro's (the SS sedan that seems to be tested is obviously not stock). By the way, my old el 4.0 auto GLI (Lukey extractors and 68 mm exhaust) toasted a Monaro 5.7 auto. I know he was flat out because while I was going 110 (stopped accelerating), he overtook me with fuel pouring out the exhaust (happy P plate memory of mine). That, and the car was advertised for sale in the paper the following week. They're not as fast as some magazines may lead you to believe.
  18. The only one I know is here http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_...rtKeyField=5066 There's probably more, I'd be looking in the US for ideas on more power, also this site http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/ has heaps of options. Personally, I'd be going for the CAPA package, as it's engineered with all the parts you need. Configural superchargers also seem to be better at producing horsepower for whatever reason, I geuss they're more efficient. Interested to hear what you end up doing to the Boss.
  19. Also, anyone else notice how the HSV XU6 failed miserably and ceased production when the 240t was released???!!
  20. Plonkey, you don't sound like much of a ford fan to me. Not that I care about what you think, but your talking crap. The SV6 does 0-100 in 6.95 sec, 1/4 in 15.19 sec (150 km/h) as per motor. A manual 182 xt does 0-100 in 7.23 and 1/4 in 15.23 (with 3.23 final drive). The xr6 with it's 3.45 is about half a second quicker again. The 175 bomadore is slower than the sv6 (presumably), so the vz isn't as quick as the ba, your arguement just went out the window. The new ss did 0-100 in 5.82, and 1/4 in 13.99, the 6 speed ar's and GT will be at least .3 seconds quick than 5 speed due to the shorter gearing and quicker shift. Can't wait to see the mk 2 times. Ford has Expensive Daewoo on the ropes, and fords engines, as always, are rubbing their nose in it (still) LS1's are sh*t, so don't bother with that. What sort of car company sells brand new cars with a bottle of oil in the boot. Any other car maker would stop their cars leaking/burning oil.
  21. I'm interested in getting an xrt by the end of the year (now they're getting a decent gearbox) and modifying it. Had a look on the site but couldn't find anything about the intake manifold of the ba, and whether an eb/ed manifold would bolt on. I've seen ef (which looks identical to ba) manifolds fitted to ed xr6's, just wondering if anyone's tried/thought of making the swap and if it's possible, and if there's a gain in performance (due to TB location and smaller capacity for turbo to fill pre inlet valve). Also, I know APS push the multi orfice injectors, but given the intake pressures of the big six on boost, does it really matter? I've seen indy blue 1600cc indectors, just wondered if anyone's using them (aps are using two sets on their phase 4, as you all probably know). Just interested about these and wanted to know more. Thanks
