I don't know anything about converting to gas either, but just wondered if anyone has had any problems with it? I read somewhere a ford engineer said that stronger conrods were needed for the factory BA LPG motor as the DOHC head flows so well, if there's a back fire with LPG you can expect bent rods (SOHC heads wouldn't let enough gas in to cause damage apparently). Have these injected gas systems overcome the backfire possibility?

mine does the same thing, whenever you park on a slope and the car rests on the park pin. I'm getting into the habbit of stopping/starting in neutral and using the hand brake. It sounds like sh*t hearing a thunk like that from the gearbox, I geuss some gearbox guys would be able to fix it...

Now If You Don't Hate The Little Turd, U Soon Will
tquarrell replied to thebrunks's topic in MotorSport
I think it's an abolute discrace. It's obvious that no matter which manufacturer wins bathurst, the other will win the championship. Between the other falcon guys at indy and the officials there and at phillip island, it is no wonder I've lost interest in the series. And as for Marcos Ambrose at bathurst last year, "the" champ got it right when I said it's an abolute joke. Greg Murphy, Rick Kelly they've shown to be very unsportsman like, and to be honest I believe they have hampered holdens marketing more than helped. I can't see anyone going from ford to Expensive Daewoo with those sorts of performances, hence the whole point is a waste of time (advertising). On another note, why do they let Expensive Daewoo use ford cylinder heads, suspensions and differentials, if their own isn't good enough, that's their problem! And when are we going to start seeing 4 cam v8's and independant rear suspensions? I'm sure that there are a few cars on this site that could embarass them with a quarter of the cost. Anyway, that's my 2 cents -
I'm an accountant and I fitted no problems. I even gave it a coat of matt black, virtually impossible to pick as non stock (certainly to the untrained eye anyway)

Any Ideas For Group Buys? - Window shopping for blokes...
a topic replied to tquarrell in Group Buys
anyone know where to get prodrive stickers? Like the one on the front of the drif6? I've never had a sticker on my car, thought one might be good for the top of the rear window (just an idea), white writing with teal underline -
I saw this on ebay, good mix between airflow and the buldge IMO, but would like an outlet at the back of the buldge as well BA bonnet scoop

Further to goldie post, I didn't realise until I had a look in the owners manual recently, but Park should never be selected while the engine is spinning. I think this may be the cause of the thump in some cars. States you should start the car in neutral, and only put it into park when the engine stops. This should help look after the box

main thing I'd like to see is lower weight. How can they do this? I'd suggest some alloy rear suspension parts, alloy block engines and I wouldn't mind seeing a slight decrease in dimensions (back to say a camry size).

don't want to turn you off it but the xr6 but they pretty expensive to run and own (ins isn't much better than turbo). I got an xt for my first, kinda wish I hadn't and got the T straight away or an economical car while I saved up for what I really wanted. I think a tx3 turbo 4wd would make a great first car, as they handle well and have the potential to go pretty quick (low 14's or better with exhaust, intercooler and boost), however stock they are more then adequate, and I'd suggest as quick in a straight line as an NA xr6 (they do mid 15's stock, as quick as a vlt). Other decent first cars IMO (depending on what you want) are the DOHC Vtec civic's or sr20 pulsars. I'm considering these for a second run arround myself, may be worth keeping once you get a T or what car floats your boat.

Hi all, I came across this deal and thought it may be of interest to some fellow xr6t owners. These cats are tested to 596 cfm which I figure suits the stock exhaust pretty well given it flows 560cfm (I read here somewhere). The clencher for me was the price. As you can tell from the website the retail is $US247, however they're selling for $US104. I got mine including shipping for $US118, which at the current exchange rate is about $150. http://www.hottexhaust.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=59929

there are a few little bolts (one to the exhaust on the dump pipe, and the rest join the top and bottom shield together. There's also a couple of clamps, I just bent the end straight and then levered them loose with a screw driver. (they're pretty tight) I doubt a ford dealer would charge much though (shame you're out of warranty) Mine never rattled, but I noticed that it had like a heat proof cloth around the cat (under the shield), maybe the earlier T's didn't have this?

any plans to take it down the strip? what times have you achieved in the NA?

Siemens Deka 60lb Injectors! My Lastest Mod - Possibly group purchase?
tquarrell replied to Headsex's topic in Group Buys
I received mine last week (I don't check the mail that often, probably been there a little while). Very pleased with them, thanks Danny for co-ordinating it, worked very well. Did you manage to get any more discount ?(it's yours to keep for your efffort, just wondered because 18 sets is alot closer to 20 then 10 sets). -
According to this site they have an 9.5 to 1 compression ratio and run 15.6 psi of boost. Given the boost pressures WRX's and EVO run, and their similar size engine, I'm guessing this is probably about right. Direct injection looks pretty good though, given mazda have it, ford can't be to far away. http://autoweb.drive.com.au/cms/A_107922/newsarticle.html

Siemens Deka 60lb Injectors! My Lastest Mod - Possibly group purchase?
tquarrell replied to Headsex's topic in Group Buys
Put me down for a set. By the way I found a post on the us gto forums for the LS2's and they're paying 450 US for mototrons, and about 300 US for 968's. Bargain! So are there any deals going on a suitable fuel pump? (330 rwkw is the max I'm targeting) What are you using? I've heard the walbro 255 is pretty popular, what else is available? -
Siemens Deka 60lb Injectors! My Lastest Mod - Possibly group purchase?
tquarrell replied to Headsex's topic in Group Buys
I'm interested, so long as they are the siemens deka and not some chinese copy like suggested -
I've never used them (I prefer to buy second hand myself, save some tax dealer delivery and depreciation), but this seems pretty competitive, 53,310 plus dealer delivery, stampduty and options, brand new. http://www.discountnewcars.com.au/FPV/FPV-F6-Typhoon-BF.cfm

I heard somewhere that the typhoon has an engine oil cooler, is that right? Where abouts do they put it? Any pics available? Mine's stock and looses power in 3rd gear under load (ie overtaking up a hill ocassionally), don't know whether it's boost cut or the engine oil protection thing.... the joys of turbo's
-
I think it'd be easier to buy a T and take the badge off. Drive it sensibly and the cops won't think anything of it and it will achieve the same outcome as fitting a turbo to an na, with a less hassles and a lower cost. That said, I'd be checking out insurance before getting to carried away. Ford build them so you don't have to, and besides, the factory put much more into these engines than meets the eyes.

get a quote from www.justcarinsurance.com.au as stated above. They insure a 22 yr old with xr6t with exhaust, intercooler and remapped computer for $835 (rating one) which I thought was a bargain given my xt sedan was about $600 with allianz (similar quote from just car for the xt).
-
to many variables to be certain, however a while back an xr6t auto ute did 0-100 in 6.5, 1/4 in 14.5. A 235kw auto ss ute did 0-100 in 6.7, 1/4 in 14.7 in motor magazine. The ss sedan's seem to be faster than both the utes and the munaro's by a fair way, and given the 250kw vz ss sedan is no quicker than the "235kw" ss sedan (only the green ss they tested went well, every other one was .5 secs slower )I don't think the ss ute will worry the t ute in the real world. Not much difference though

vl's are alright, but they're not in the same league as the xr6t. The number of mods they need to get 13's are often overlooked (exhaust, intercooler, boost) and really not that impressive IMHO (the xr6t does them out of the box, and do high 11's, low 12's with same). Sure, they were good in their day and there are some fast one's, but enough money will make anything go. And a stock vlt running 14.8? Not sure about that. Wheels quoted 0-100 in 7.5 and quarter in 15.5 (manual), about as quick as an atmo ba AUTO xt. Just a reality check on how good the vlt really is... They are alright, but nothing special
-
this has been covered in another thread, anyway those times were manual xt v's auto xr6. The xr6 has 235/45/17 tyres against xt's 215/60/16, and xr6 has 3.45:1 diff against xt's 3.23:1. Also, the xt weighs 1628kg's, and the auto xt does 0-100 in 7.7, whilst manual xr6 I believe does 0-100 in about 7.5 (don't know). Bottomline? the xt's quicker, but not by that much.

the 380 has 172kw's, its lighter, doesnt suffer the same fate of 25% drivetrain loss as our RWD's. Which will easily outpace the XR6 (non turbo of course) once again in stock form. Easily outpace the 190kw na I6? Can't see it happening myself. It does suffer drivetrain power loss, and if anything a greater coefficient (a 163kw magna has 111kw's at the wheels, or a 32% loss). As for weight, the last model magna was over 1500kg's, and believe the new one is heavier (an XT weighs 1628kg's), so there's less than 8% more weight with 10% more power, if the gearing is similar the magna would have no chance of beating, however I'd expect them to be pretty similar. On a side note, anyone seen the figures on the alloytec commodores? The only one I've seen is an auto executive 0-100 in 9.2, 0-400 in 16.5, this is slower than the 3.8 isn't it? I know the SV6 6 speed is as quick as the 5 speed 182 falcon. Anyone else notice the disappearence of that v6 dyno add? That make's me laugh.

XR6T? I just want one! As for the controversy surrounding legitamcy, it is pretty silly. Everyone knows that power is a product of torque and RPM. If a car is producing more torque at a given rpm, it also has more power at that point. Whilst other engines are traditionally peaky, the XR6T isn't. I.e. it's engine probably has more power down lown and the midrange, whilst it's top end is a little blunter which why it's peak power probably isn't comparable with most hipo motors. Also, the cars weight is somewhat overstated by most. The reality is it is less than 40Kg's heaver than an AU xr8 or LS1 commodore. Just some constructive feedback/idea's, have you considered running 3.73 or lower diff gears? The BA XL utes don't have aircon std, considered loosing the air con for the XL setup? It's amazing how easily these things can really fly. Looking forward to seeing how the 6 speed auto's go too
