Aren't they just a Ryco Z9 oil filter???? I know Ford go on about silicon valve etc etc. but a Z9 should get you out of trouble for around $7 I'm pretty sure they're a different filter than the V8's use (Z516) Russ

I wouldn't back the T against any of the light jap cars on a track, especially a Subaru. But seeing as we're talking launching off the line as the original question is about (I'm not sure why people keep taking it off topic, like around MP or turbo rotary etc etc.) I thought I'd use a worked rotary against a turbo piston driven car as a referance! Even turbo 2wd cars launch better than the rotaries in Improved Production. My point still stands & is true, a rotary has the problem of having the power come on high in the rev range which limits it's ability to launch off the line compared to piston driven engines, especially high output turbo 6 cylinders which hit max torque at 2000 RPM. an lsd is a far safer diff, as a detroit will open & lock by itself. As for cornering an LSD will allow the the inside & outside wheels to differentiate, where as a locked diff will force the car to understeer. Russ

We're talking stock NA rotary vs stock Turbo 6 aren't we???? No come & see the the Qld Championship at QR at the end of Feb & you'll see NA peripheral ported Rotaries against restricted Turbos. I'll even arrange a ticket for you! Then you'll understand!!! A restricted WRX will climb 2 rows against rotaries off the line, imagine what it'd do without a restictor!!! There's no XR6 etc that can compete on power to weight with a restictor in Improved Production, they're just too heavy & can only punch out so much HP. the problem with the rotaries is they have to have high revs to launch, which means wheel spin or clutch slip on road tyres, Drag tyres are a different kettle of fish as the tyre will bag up/absorb the energy. F6 Rapid, take it down the qtr & we'll see how quick it really is, you can't have it both ways, high reving & quick launch!!! Once they're rolling it's a different story, but from a standing start rotaries are hopeless. I'd be very surprised if it does get into the 14 sec qtr mile!! Russ

I agree with you on this one MRDOHC, although if you cause too much trouble they may tell you where to go & flag it in the Ford system. It'd be funny if you travelled down that path & the next dealer said the same thing, that'd really stuuf the scenario up! Russ

You should dust him off the line as rotaries don't launch too well & max torque doesn't come on until 5500 RPM. From all reports stock standard they do 15.3 sec qtr mile! I'll get some footage of a mates STI WRX racing in Improved Production, as he jumps 2 rows off the start against rotaries. It's bloody amazing how slow rotaries are off the line, as the power range is at high revs & they tend to wheel spin instead of gripping & going! Russ

Getting an error code & reflashing the PCM are 2 entirely different things! Firstly reading data can't damage anything in the PCM unless the reader is faulty. To reflash a PCM they need to rewrite the ROM, which means they need to send a constant file across to the PCM with no interruptions! If the Piggyback caused data loss at that point it'd make your PCM unfunctional. (I'm assuming there's no backup in the PCM to fall back on) You've got to see it from their point of view, if the PCM didn't operate after the reflash you'd be more pissed & who would be liable for it to be replaced?? I'd take the piggyback off & take it back to them. They're not trying to make life difficult, they're just covering their ass & trying not to cause major pain. Have you spoken to the Service Manager, I'd call them again & ask them what can be done, if another Ford dealer has done a reflash with a unichip installed get them to ring them & confirm it for you. I can understand their point of view though, would you pay for their equipment if the Unichip did stuff it???? What they need is a disclaimer so you understand that any damage to their equipment & your car caused by third party non-Ford equipment will be covered by yourself & not their responsability. They have no control on what a customers put in their car, but they also have no idea what damage can be done by reflashing the PCM with a piggy back in between the OBD socket & PCM!! If it were my company I'd say the same, I hope every Ford dealer you go to says the same as well. You chose to put it their not them, why should they work around it for warranty, when it can be the cause?? If you take out the piggy back, I'm sure they'd do the job without a fuss! Russ

I race on Yokohama Advan A032R, as do Improved Production. they grip pretty well & are street legal. The Australian Production Car Championship run on Advan A048 & they're also legal They wouldn't hold up for too long for general use, but they're pretty good for the track. Russ

I'm not into Bullies, I have owned 3 Cattle dogs & 1 cattle cross Dingo (this was the best dog by a mile, could run at 60klm/h, had perfect balance & agility, awesome hunting dog , he'd flog dogs twice his size & was great with kids). Here's my current car alarm...she may look innocent, but no-one beside my family are allowed near the car when she's in it. People can even pat her & play with her, but as soon as I put her in the car she'll rip them to shreds. I don't even lock the car with her in it, I even leave the windows down.

Mate anything a a magazine prints is for the pen*s pullers!!! I only buy XR6 Turbos for one reason.... Bang for buck!!! Base car price plus $2-3k will see you into the 12 sec qtr!!! The Ford Xr6 Turbo is the most detuned car produced in Oz!!!! What can compare to it for the $$$$$$???? nothing at all!!! Russ

From my experience certain D-Link routers require rebooting! My favourite brand is SMC, they work on basically everything except satellite! The old SMC ABR/AWBR range was by far the most reliable, I installed a new version with G+ & that seems to work faultless on bigpond cable. Personally D-Link are too cheap. SMC also have lifetime warranty! Russ

After picking up my 3rd T, I've noticed it is a monster compared to the other 2 I've owned. It seems to have way more Power, which I would attribute to higher compression. To me it seems to have better throttle response & better engine braking, both characteristics of higher compression. Both other cars ran 14.1 & 14.2 down the qtr, but this one would kill them both. The first 2 were Mid 3003 Build, this one is mid 2004 build. Even the wife noticed the difference after taking it out today. Anyone else noticed it & has anyone compression tested a stock turbo & what was the compression of each pot??? Cheera Russ

I still own the old one & know you have to upload the stock map back up to the PCM! I do believe that the SCT black box has to go back to a dealer to be unlocked from the VIN. If anyone can answer this one for me that would be great! Russ

Yeh , citric isn't exactly my favourite either! White with dark tint is definately the go for me. But for the money I couldn't say no seeing as I can claim back the GST & still have factory warranty. I should have money left over in the changeover as well. PM sent re purchasing! Russ
