Thanks guys, any more input? Mark - Funny thing that... I've been trying to convince the lady that she needs a Forester for the last 6 months... lol. I think many of the issues I had with the MkI will not really apply here. Brakes on FPV are better, gearbox is better, only thing I'm not sure of for the FPV is the driveline shunt that I had on the MkI... The chance of me putting an Edit on a T/F6 are slim to none, until factory warranty has expired... Cheers

Well in October the Mazda6 MPS is coming out, it's an AWD 2.3 litre turbo, with 6 speed manual... It's in the running simply because it's a natural competitor to the Subaru Liberty... But the FPV is just so... neat...

OK guys, I'm in a dilemma.... I'm in the market for a new car, after ditching the new MkI T after just 18 months due to annoying issues with brakes, diff, gearbox and engine... Having had a slow 4WD for a while now... I've come to a realisation. I have a 1997 GXL HZJ80 Landcruiser, a big diesel beast which is sensational off road and touring, but I really NEED my fast car back... (Oh and blatant plug, the landcruiser is for sale! Anyone interested contact me. I've been offered a pretty good price on a brand new MkII FPV F6 Typhoon, to be able to be picked up next week - it's on the dealer lot at the moment with 45 km on it... I've been offered a fair whack off the RRP, and I'm pretty sure theres even room for movement... BUT, I know that the MkIII (or MkII update or whatever they're going to call it) is being released in October. The MkIII will have the 6 speed auto option, which I'm seriously considering - my first EVER automatic car. However, the MkIII will NOT be discounted for me for at least 6 months (damn fleet discounts), so I'm concerned that my not knowing the MkIII story is going to affect me badly... Can anyone offer some sound advice for me buying the next car, should I wait until October to see what happens, and take the chance that I won't be able to get the F6 I want cheaply (relative term I know)...??? My options at this stage are broad, and I'm having difficulty separating them all appropriately... - 2005 FPV F6 Typhoon, MkII 6M (stock standard) - 2005 Ford XR6 Turbo, MkII 6M (with the options I want incl lux pack etc) - 2005 Subaru Liberty GT 5M (standard) - 2005 Subaru Liberty 3.0RB 6M (standard) or wait for: - (October) 2005 FPV F6 Typhoon, MkIII 6A (stock standard) - (October) 2005 Mazda6 MPS 6M 2.3 turbo (standard) So it's broad I know, and I'm having serious issues with "analysis paralysis"... Somebody, anybody, give me some opinions about MkII vs MkIII vs Subaru vs Mazda... Look forward to the fun...

... HOW??? ... Tell me, I must know NOW!!! .... come on, puleassse <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yepski... HOW do you hook it up to the ICC?
-
So does the quad exhaust fit to a standard XR6 Turbo MkII? No cutting the rear skirt or anything?
-
Anything on the MP3 playing capabilities of the Factory Premium ICC yet??

Not one of us can honestly say we've never done something stupid like that. On the radio this morning, a segment on "Stupid But Lucky"... I think applies to all of us. I'm 24, drive an XR6T, love adrenaline sports, ride a motorbike, race my celica, and I've sure as heck done some sensationally stupid things. BUT... When all's said and done, the younger the person in control of the car, the less likely it is that they will consider the consequences of their actions, and the less likely it is that they have the appropriate experience to control any given situation. Perhaps one of the only solutions IS to attempt to protect people from themselves - as well as protect everyone around them too. Limit the type and power of cars to ALL drivers, and don't let them near anything powerful until they have proven themselves capable through driver training, certification (CAMS etc), and a proven road record. As a suggestion I think it has great merit - even though the naysayers will jump in and try to beat it down as usual. "Can't make us give up our cars! Can't take our choice away!" yadda yadda. To those that would argue: Of all those people controlling high powered vehicles on public roads, how many of them are truly capable of remaining in control of them? In answer - there is no harm in allowing people to drive whatever vehicle they want, but make sure they are ABLE to control the vehicle of their choice. Why do you think motorcycle riders have a power-weight ratio limit on bikes they can ride??? How much would such a "licence level" system cost to implement? Millions. How much are the lives of those who are killed on Australia's roads each year worth? How much will this sort of system reduce the toll??? Go and ask someone who has lost a family member how much that life was worth. Gah.

I use nothing but CDRs in my car. Why? Because I've had wayyyyy too many CD's stolen from my car in the past. Only issue with the premium sound is like spadnium says - it skips a bit on burnt CDs when you're going over bumps. I don't use labels, and I don't use crappy CDrs either. No real problems so far with it. Just the skipping every now and then. And the Aux input has some bloody feedback loop in it somewhere that is linked in tone to the engine revs, so when I plug my MP3 player in, it has an annoying hum!

"Manufacurers retail price $449.95"? *shrug* how do they connect up? How hard to get it hooked up? what's the install process like? (self install or pro?) How does it work? How much for delivery? When can I get one?

I must admit, having a dickens cider is definitely one of my favourite pastimes. I like to have my dickens cider at least once a day - preferably once as I wake up and another just before going to bed. Of course, that means I actually have my dickens cider twice over, but it's just as good the second time round! Unfortunately, sometimes the establishment has closed for maintenance, or the price of having a dickens cider goes through the roof for some reason... meaning some days I just don't get my dickens cider. Withdrawal symptoms? And one other thing - if you've ever had a dickens cider while a friend also has a dickens cider, then you're a lucky man for sure.

yep... but at least it wasn't one of the guys who just got done for 71 in a 60 zone... Now I'll go hide behind someone a lot bigger'n me...

GT pics here: http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/photogallery/m...p?threadid=3244 http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/photogallery/m...p?threadid=3245 Scary (but fun!) thing is... these things are legal to drive on the road... in the same form as I drove at the track... Fark.

kryzak - yep, it's a black Triumph Daytona 955i... and I have yet to see a police car OR bike that could even dream of keeping up, let alone CATCH it... lol mmm.... yummy bike... guy here has one!

You could buy a car in the UK and own it for 3 months over there and then bring it back to Aus, tax and duty free, but that was about 7 years ago. I was gonna buy a new BMW over there and bring it back but never got around to it... Coz then you could buy a RHD M3 from europe, and bring it in here duty free... lol... Cost - 3 months holiday in Europe... lol... Wonder if you can still do that? mmm... I could go a few months driving around europe in an M3... lol.

yuh-huh... I went to Oran park for that as well, but the PM shift... Drove the XR8s and the GT - damn I wish my 6T had that manual box.... We did some skid examples where it really showed off the ability of the traction control, and the slalom as well. Then they let us loose on the track... lol... I won a "hot lap" being driven by the lead driving instructor of John Bowe driving institute... in the GT! I believe the few words out of my mouth were along the lines of "FAAAAAAARK me!" the turn in! the acceleration! the eyeball-popping retardation from the brakes! the chirping tyres in 1st! 2nd! 3rd!!! 185km/hr down the main straight! getting the tail out round the last corner and steering on nuthin but throttle all the way through! on a dry track! aaargh! I F**KIN WANT ONE!!!! *ahem* Awesome day, thanks to Motor Magazine and FoMoCo. I finally got to hear an XR6 Turbo being driven hard from the outside! sounds horny as! But the XR8 just has that SOUND. *another deep breath, steadies hands... again...* Another surprise was the ST170 Focus - 127kw of RAW FRONT WHEEL DRIVE POWER!!! Mind you, I could actually drive the focus faster around the limited track we had than anyone was driving the XRs. Something to do with having about 500kg less weight... ROFL. Damn me but I want to do that again! worth the drive from canberra that morning to get there, and even worth telling work that "I had an urgent appointment in sydney"... lol Got a couple pics of the GT, but then didn't really bother with piccies of anything else... too busy driving! Venom red GT, if anyone wants I'll post.

Jag had a IR-based HUD that overlaid an IR-enhanced image over the windscreen... if only I kept that link...

with the grit in the VCT sensor (happened twice to me) the engine surges to 2500 on startup, then idles back at 700 or so, but the idle is REALLY lumpy. Like XU-1 Torana lumpy... So it's pretty obvious what it is. I had recommended to me by the dealer head mechanic that if it happens while driving, run the car down in 2nd from 3000rpm to stall, then turn off and start again. Cleared it up for me. Does something with the cam sensor or something. Dunno other than that!

Mate... I gave up my lovely EL XR6 manual for my baby... Never have I made a better decision!!! I LOVE the new car. Wouldn't go back!
-
mmm... xr turbo six + more power + 6 speed SSS auto + awd + lightened everything... *droooooools*
-
Yeah, but if the chicken had an XR6 Turbo, then it wouldn't be CROSSING the road... it'd be hammering DOWN the road... lol
-
Well a turbo taxi sounds great - I mean, put it this way... If you drove a car for at least 8 hours a day, all over the place in all sorts of traffic, wouldn't YOU want a car that you enjoy??? ergo... xr6 turbo taxi = Useful, fast, and f**kin fun.. hmm... Wonder how it goes on LPG, and how they got round the warranty issues? I had my EL XR6 on LPG, went really well. Can't do that to the BA though...
-
hmm... where's the connector to the ECU itself then? All the interfaces on the ixxat page have what looks like a DB9 interface, or some other wierd and wacky thing that I don't have a clue about. The connector in the internal fuse box is the same shape as an OBDII connector, is there a converter or something? Anyone done this sort of thing? Anyone know how they do it in the workshop?
-
oh my... they look like scanned pages from a workshop manual or something... where can I get my hands on a complete one of those? *hint hint*
