Here is a rear view. Not quite sharp but the badge is clearly visible.

Spotted by my son at Melbourne airport a few days ago. Working Taxi with 18" wheels and turbo in full Taxi Kit! Now I know why people say they are just a hot taxi!
  3. I reported my 5th gear crunch again last week at the 45000 service. When I picked it up friday evening the front office guy said he had been told that they had ordered some parts to fix it and they would get it back in next week. It does not sound like I am getting a new box. Not sure what to make of this. I will talk to the service manager on Monday. Should I be pushing for a new 'box?
  4. Thanks Cro. Turboman, Hmmm. I wonder where the distinction between light brackes and a 'Nudge Bar' starts and finishes? I'm thinking much more low key than a 'nudge Bar'. I might have to talk to my Insurence co. first. Wonder how they classify the numberplate light brackets? Bull Bar or light mounting bracket? Can the removal of the T+M bar be modified to be a 30 second job? (I assume it is a spenner job now). Cheers, Prof
  5. Hi Cro, I gather you have some 'special' brackets to bolt on that nudge bar because the originals were not compatible with the 'T' intercooler location. Can you point me to where I might obtain the same. I am assuming they might also be compatible with a custom made bar. I am looking at making my own light bar as I want to have my lights in a different position, but the main reason is I want to make it 'quick release' so it can be easily removed when not doing night trips. Unlock, unplug, slide-off type of arrangement. Cheers, Professor Ratbaggy
  6. Higher than average stock power? I recon its stating the obvious....... but......... 'normal variation in production tolerances'. Was the actual boost level monitored on the stock run. Could it be possible that it was making a little more boost than average as well? Caused buy a favourable set of normal tolerences. Also remember its a manual....
  7. This thread seems to be way out of date and in need of a complete upgrade. Might as well start a new thread. Who can summerise the current situation for us?
  8. Ok, heres a prettier scanned image of the Graph. Ford spec the XR6T at 450Nm @ 2000 - 4500?? RPM, and the Typhoon at 550Nm at whatever revs, cant be bothered rereading from their website. I would say mines averageing 5700N between 110 and 155 km/h, but have no idea that revs that is. I'll make a point of checking on the way home tonight, although not to 150 or 170 klicks Also, I have no real idea how to relate 5700N to NM of torque. I always just removed the trailing 0 to make it 570Nm???? Anyone. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that's not correct either, remember that torque displayed on a dyno graph is tractive effort, which is the result after the torque has been increased byt the gear ratios in the gearbox and then the diff, and finally reduced a bit buy the diametre of the tyre. You have to calc the figure all the way back to the engine and then apply the other formula. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And this works out too.................????
  9. Ok. I worked out that the Typhoon made 5500N (whatever that is?) of torque at between 3000 and 3500 rpm. I can see that Gooza's car made about 7200N. What was the rpm for this? How do these figures relate to the ones quoted by Ford in their specifications?
  10. I appreciate the graphs Gooza. Thanks. But.... I still don't know the answer to my question. It is clear that editing a stock 'T' can get at least as many KW and proably more than a Typhoon. It is not so clear what the Torque situation is to me. I understand that KW is directly related to KW and RPM so logic tells me the torque should be better as well, but I can't tell from the graphs what the comparison in peak torque is between the edited car and the Typhoon. Little winge here: "Why are these dyno graphs always so bloody indeciperable!!!!!?????" I deal with graphs on a daily basis and I thought I was at least average at interpreting them. These dyno graphs challege all pretense at logic. Someone in the dyno industry needs to go back to primary school and learn how to set out a graph!!! Phew! I feel better now.....
  11. I saw this question elsewhere in this forum but did not notice an answer. Is it usual or possible to get the same level of Torque from a stock T with an edit as what comes from a Typhoon? Are the Power figures also comparable? I guess this question arises because I have not seen a Dyno graph for a stock Typhoon to compare with the edited cars. If there is such a graph in this forum I would be most grateful if someone could point me to it.
  12. " ...the next VL turbo..." Yep, not too far from the mark. I was a very happy VL Turbo owner for many years. I saw the XR6T as the next logical successor, and I have to say now that I have had mine for 9 months, I think I was right. This is a car that will continue to have a cult following for many years to come. In many ways it has more potential than the venerable VLT, (more litres, intercooler standard) and in some ways less (marginal 5 speed man for modding), but entusiasts will continue to find ways for personalising and improving we have not yet thought of. Bring it on.......! Professor
  13. 10 litres / 100 km!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, I would be over the moon if I could get that on one trip, let alone as an average. The turbo is nice, but it does come with a cost in fuel consumpion it seems. I think I am averaging about 13.5. Just keep thinking about that fuel consumption and it might take the edge off all those other little niggles. LOL! Cheers, Professor Ratbaggy

I just replaced my first set of SP3000's at 38,000km. They were badly scrubbed on the outside front. My Tyre specialist asked my about my driving habits and after hearing of my penchant for 'brisk' driving on winding mountain roads, he suggested that I had been running the pressures way too low at near the placard 'normal pressure of 32 - 32. He recomended 40 - 38 and rotating the tyres every 8000km. I will be keeping a close eye on things to see how this goes. Not much of a problem during the summer though as most of my running is straight and flat (out) Winter and the mountain roads will be interesting Professor Ratbaggy
  15. Good link MaxPower! (http://www.nizpro.com.au/cobrakit/cobrainformation.html#top) The page on the XR6T is very well written and presented. I have always had some reservations about the Nizpro pricing, but this page certainly indicates that they have done some serious homework so the development costs are at least somewhat visible. The stage 1 kit does not look like too bad value if it includes a custom tune. There must be some seriously wealthy XR6T owners around if they expect to sell many of the stage 2 and 3 kits though Professor Ratbaggy
  16. My understanding of the 'by-pass' is that they 'disconnect' ecu control of the wastegate. As I understand it the car runs a base boost of about 5 psi. The ecu is able to increase this a couple of psi in the mid range. By disconnecting this control you only have the base 5psi max all the time. I belive they said they clamped a vacum hose. Could be wrong, and often are

Ok. I just read the web page about dyno's that is liked in an earlier post. I think it confirms what I thought about how they calculate power. Still don't understand how we get torque (that's if we can - get and actual figure I mean). Cheers,

Thanks Nick for taking the time to try to answer my (many) questions. Much appreciated. I guess, as with all communication, the devil is in the details. Or to put it another way. Ask a murky question, get an answer to a slightly different question. Not having a go at you. I think my questions were unclear. (Perhaps it is my lack of understanding of some basic principles on how dyno's work?) We are reading different things into them. (that seems to happen a bloody lot on these forums ;-) I will try it this way: when measuring the force (turning force = torque?) at the rollers. Would there not be more torque in lower gears? ie, it would take more resistance to keep the rollers turning at a constant speed in 1st gear than in 5th gear. Same with different ratio diffs. I assume there must be a way to compensate for this? Otherwise we would read more torque in low gears. Power I think I can understand. it is speed by torque? Therefore turn them as fast as you can against a known resistance and machine spits out power to turn them that fast against known resistance. Higher gears just go faster but with less resistance to get max revs. Is this something like it? Perhaps I am just misreading what a dyno can do (and this would explain why I can never read the 'torque' side of the graphs. Perhaps it can not give a proper figure for torque? I hope this is clearer. I'll leave the other thousand questions for another day. :-) Anyhow, I appreciate your efforts. Cheers, Professor Ratbaggy
  19. Havn't done enough kms to really tell. To be honest, I wouldn't care how much fuel it used, as long as it ran as it was meant too!! Did they by-pass your boost soleniod? As when they did this to my car the fuel consumption really increased. From 13.8 up to 15.5L/100km. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Track, That is exactly what I found when the by-passed mine. Fuel consumption changes almost exactlly as you quoted. And felt gutless. I put up with it for a month and then insisted they change it back. fuel consumption now back to good again. Power back to normal. Funny thing is, I have not had any more 'cutting out' problems!

I have a few questions thanks: I believe they work by measuring turning force against resitance. (torque?) How do they compensate for using different gears and diff ratios? Why the hell are Dyno graphs always so undecipherable???!!! The numbers up on side never make any sense (the side opposite the KW side). Why can't they show (corrected) torque? Why dont they show RPM across the bottom??!! And on the same topic; why can't Dyno graphs use grid units that make sense? Its common to see one with KW spacing that doesn't have any even relationship to the grid pattern. eg. 20kw but 7 grid squares (made up example to show what I mean) How can you tell how much each grid square is without advance maths? AAAAARRRRRHHHHH!!!!! How are dynos calibrated? Thanks
  21. Guys, what about BUG removal? This time of the year the front of my car looks like a fuzzy bear every time I come back from a trip! Carwash does not seem too effective. I actually bought a bug remover product from Supercheap that smelled like Diesel. Didn't do anything but stink! Any suggestions re good car wash or bug removers? Thanks
  22. Ok NOS XR. You got my attention. What is this 'new N/A 220kw 6' that you speak of and what do you know about it. When is it coming to us?
  23. Shheesh. I am sorta glad to see this thread because my 'T' has the same problem ( but not glad to have it!). First noticed it changing from 3rd to 5th and then 4th to 5th at higher speeds (120+) . I mentioned the 3rd to 5th problem to the dealer at the 30,000 service. He said it was probably just normal when skipping gears but they would check it out. When I picked it up he sounded genuinely concerned and told me the mechanic who test drove it said it was really bad from 4th to 5th and he would report it because something would have to be done. He also said they didn't like the 3rd shift gate from any gear and that it was not good enough. I had a chuckle at that one because I always knew this but thought they would say it was 'normal'. Looks like I might get a new 'box but I hope this does not become a continuous repeating problem. Wonder if they might just slip in a new 6 speed to fix it for good............ I'd like to see that!

Dynowog. I have a stocky that was doing it fairly regularly on my trips to the mountains but almost nowhere else. For the past 6 weeks it has been 'temporarily fixed' by ford by by-passing the wastgate control from the computer!!! No good!!! Lost too much go of course. I got them to put it back to standard last week at 30000 service but it hasn't played up since. I think it only plays up when I run it on Optimax but not sure. My next move was going to be the 'edit' to try to solve the problem and boost the GO at the same time, but, like many others, I am waiting to see some live ones done first. If you want to test on my car with your idea I could come up to melb in a couple of weeks for a day or two. Please PM me if you are interested.

So I presume your fix did not work Dynowog. Or are you still waiting for a volunteer? I was at my dealer yesterday and they said Ford will have a new computer flash to cure this overboost in stock cars 'very soon'. I'd like to see that.....
