as the title suggests I'm interested in other peoples views on the v40 station wagon. my sister-in-law has enlisted my services in helping her update her current ride (which so happens to be another volvo). she's looking at 97-99 v40, 2ltr manual. 1. is the auto a better bet considering it's a fwd? 2. any known faults to be aware of? 3. personal opinions from previous owners of this car keenly sought? cheers andrew
  2. I don't actually have a chart with boost on it at the moment. Driving homw last night the boost seemed to be around 18psi. I'm pretty sure that Rob said he was using 65lb Siemens injectors, I'll try to get more info soon. The car stronger rods. With similar power with the Xede tune I managed an 11.17@125. That was with 328rwkw's with an octane booster. My 10.68 was with 380rwkw's, which was an edit tune so I'm hoping for a 10.9x with this tune but an 11.0-11.1 is the likely result. Your spot on Brian. This is the best my car has ever been on a road tune. It's also amazing to drive. I tried to load it up last night to 2000rpm which I have been able to do in the past without loosing too much traction. It was 3am, a cold night and the car launched for about 1m and then fried the tyres. This is the first time these tyres have let go like that. The tyres are the Michelin Pilot Sports PS2's and they're 275wide so it takes alot to fry them. Steve you need to drop in to the club one night and have a drive and then have a drink with me. The drive home from work last night was one of the most enjoyable I've had in a long time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> all sounds very sweet....
  3. try Aussie Car Enhancements in melton victoria..there doing great things with 3v.
  4. is this equipped with the six speed auto?
  5. Good point Dags On our recent 2500km trip along the GOR, Adelaide etc we averaged 14lt/100km, 90% of that was open roads with the CC on Hate to think what the turbo will manage but it wont be pretty. Heard the price could be $69k for the Turbo Ghia, sounds a bit high to me, <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've just completed a similar journey (2300 klms) in a rwd territory, with 2 adults & 2 kids plus luggage using predominately cruise control and averaged 11.5 lt/100klms. what are fords intention for the rwd as at this stage NO mention of the 6 SPEED AUTO / OR TURBO OPTION.

  8. Hey there I just bought a shockwave xr6t, momo wheel, premium, alloy spare, all that sort of poo, 53 kms for $41500 so I think he is ripping you <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's very frustrating that they think I'm/We think we're stupid and don't know anything about cars, if anything alot of people in here know much more about the cars they're trying to sell. deal/dealers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> out of interest what is the changeover price if you were getting into the bf.

nah mate just flick thru it..next months will be interesting as the f6 goes against a manual clubsport..
  10. I really think that ingall will be most under pressure next season, in identical cars he's had his arse handed to him by ambrose on way too many occassions over the last 3 seasons.. can you imagine if courtney starts in his rookie year to out qualify & out race ingall the now no1 driver at sbr.. the blow torch will on ingall to stepup and fill ambrose shoes.
  11. found this at another site: The latest issue of WHEELS arrived today and there’s a few reviews of interest. First is the first drive of the BF and the next is a comparo between the BF XR6, VZ SV6 and the 380 VRX. For those who can’t be bothered reading through everything I’m going to say, put simply, the BF thrashes both and the 380 appears to be a huge disappointment. Author: Nathan Ponchard. Styling: "First impressions don’t bode well. Outwardly the 380 VRX resembles Mitsubishi’s take on a Camry… American-esque blandness and bulbous behind." They give the SV6 the OK, nothing flash but it’s far from ugly, and they describe the BF as remaining "universally attractive and unisexually appealing" Inside: "Slide into the 380 driver’s seat and initial disappointment prevails again. The steering wheel is unattractive…" While they describe the dash top as "funky" the plastic is "hard and doesn’t match any of the other equally hard interior plastics." They go on to say that the speakers look cheap and there’s no "surprise-and-delight features." While they’re on bagging out the 380, they mention that the air-vents can’t be turned off, the steering wheel can’t be adjusted for reach, p/window buttons and stalks are from the Lancer. "The Commodore’s controls are actually more tactile, clunky ventilation dials apart, while the Falcon interior is in another league again. The Ford’s classy ambience and impressive attention to detail make the Holden’s cabin look dated and flair free." Steering and ride: The 380’s steering "impresses for both its accuracy and well-weighted progressiveness when turning away from straight ahead." "For such a big front-driver, the 380 displays excellent poise and even feels noticeably more wieldy than the decent-handling Magna." They praise the refinement and ride quality along with the seats. It’s remains competitive with the "class leading" BF while being well ahead of the VZ. "The Falcon has a firmer ride than the 380, but it’s impressively damped, has better body control, and is far more polished than the stiff Commodore." The only negative with the Falcon is the steering which is "too sensitive in it’s off-centre response" Nothing new with the VZ, it’s acceptable but not class leading. Engine and transmission: The Commodores 3.6L and 5-speed auto are OK, although behind the BFs. "The BF six feels smoother, sounds sweeter and mates superbly with the virtually flawless (optional) transmission." The 380’s V6 wasn’t bad either, although nothing to get excited about. They go on to say that the Falcon has the best rear seat and the most useable interior room. The Falcon is again praised for having the largest boot. In closing, the Falcon wins easily and they even suggest that it warrants a genuine comparison with European sedans worth several times more. Falcon XR6: 4.5/5 stars 380 VRX: 3.5/5 Late model camira SV6: 2.5/5 Fuel: XR6: 13.2L per 100km 380: 13.5L per 100km SV6: 13.0L per 100km Performance times XR6: 7.2 seconds and 15.3 @ 151km/h 380: 8.5 seconds and 16.2 @142km/h SV6: 7.7 seconds and 15.6 @ 149km/h
  12. at least it's a class leader in something in every other category it finishes last..
  13. I wouldn't believe anything that comes out of drive. yesterday in the local rag they (drive) had a write up on the Expensive Daewoo viva, mentioned everything from the fabulous italian design, great standard options, beautiful handling car blah, blah,blah...what they forgot to mentioned was from where the donor vehicle originates from(rebadged kia, cheap & nasty ) and holdens input was to the ride & handling (pulled shocks & springs from kia spare parts bin). imo there dictated by the rose color advertising dollars...

phoons are manual only.. xr6t are 4 speed auto..
  15. The magna runs a faster stock 1/4 mile time than the Ford XT and XR6.. Heres a 1/4 mile registry of Magna's http://ostat.com/dave/magnaregistry.html Also, the 380 has 172kw's, its lighter, doesnt suffer the same fate of 25% drivetrain loss as our RWD's. Which will easily outpace the XR6 (non turbo of course) once again in stock form. I love it when people just spit on a car because its 'not rwd' or 'a ford' when they really have no clue what they are talking about. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If a stock Magna can better a flat 15 quarter like a manual XR6 can then I'll eat my hat. And that's without the gruntier 190 BF engine and 6 speed manual. I'd imagine the 3.8 will be too much of a handful for a FWD chassis, torque steer here we come. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> there's a 8 page spread in goauto today..well worth a read.

They might actually be the brakes from the Territory. Makes sense as they are bigger than Falcon, ventilated front and rear and are a cheaper option than the performance brakes would have been as they are a current mass production item. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> correct they are from the territory.. goauto has a writeup about the changes
  18. super effort..you're the man
