Share Posted 23/04/20 10:24 AM Posted 23/04/20 10:24 AM Share Hey guys.. I have an 07 BF mk11 xr6 turbo it's stock but with dyno tune and no cat.. when I hit boost in 1st and second it's fine but when I'm in 3rd gear at 4000+rpm the car just looses all power and starts to really idle rough and comes good again once cars turned off and on.. what possibilities could this harbour? Share Posted 23/04/20 10:58 AM Posted 23/04/20 10:58 AM Share can't think of anything mechanical it'd be if it fixes itself after you cycle the ignition.
Share Posted 23/04/20 12:21 PM (edited) Posted 23/04/20 12:21 PM Share Its likely valve springs Edited 23/04/20 12:22 PM by arronm
Author Share Posted 23/04/20 12:26 PM Posted 23/04/20 12:26 PM Share How much would valve springs be? It's just thrown a check engine light after I showed my friend what it's doing.. would valve spring fault show on scan tool and would it cut out in 1st and second pulls not just 3rd? Thanks again
Share Posted 23/04/20 12:28 PM Posted 23/04/20 12:28 PM Share valve springs cause rough idle after you've just had a breakdown up in the boost ranges or even sometimes if you've thought boost ranges was OK then if it idles rough straight after then fixes itself after a moment of simple driving... so it might not be valve springs, based on what you've said. Author Share Posted 23/04/20 12:31 PM Posted 23/04/20 12:31 PM Share It'll go from 4,000+ rpm to barely an idle.. I have to pull over and turn car off then start again then it drives fine until again 3rd gear 4k rpm just doesn't like it and shuts down and now thrown a code. Spooky
Share Posted 23/04/20 12:33 PM Posted 23/04/20 12:33 PM Share should happen straight after a 2nd gear pull then slow down to idle and it should be a bit rough... that's a sure sign of valve springs being soft.
Author Share Posted 23/04/20 12:36 PM Posted 23/04/20 12:36 PM Share Yeah it does you're right.. if I go sequential mode and give boost in first and a bit in second as I come into third it Goes to sleep. My examoles before was rolling on boost ib third.. how much for springs one would say? 4 or so hundere.. are they hard to fit?
Share Posted 23/04/20 12:40 PM Posted 23/04/20 12:40 PM Share PITA job without the right tool. and even with the right tool you need a compressor to do it and a fair bit of patience and finesse to get the back few springs out without a battle. It's usually around $800-$1.2k fitted for upgraded valve springs at a well known tuner who has done heaps of them.
Author Share Posted 24/04/20 12:16 AM Posted 24/04/20 12:16 AM Share Yeah alright thanks man.. this car has been nothing but problems.. I want to sell it and get a corolla lol would honestly get more thrills out of the corolla.. this car is a piece of sh*t tbh.. looks mint as I <3 Bananas.. very good looking example but as soon as you try to get the car performing it's just a heap of sh*t lemon Would I be ok driving it under boost? Share Posted 24/04/20 12:32 AM Posted 24/04/20 12:32 AM Share It's not ideal to drive it under boost with valve spring problems, but it's unlikely to cause any major dramas.
