Surfing around - Kenwood and JVC have a 75mm deep units , and pioneer have a shallow 87mm deep unit coming. JVC and pioneer have DAB.

With my FG , I’m working on fitting the top screen to the lower pocket.....

@rosey. What have you done with the standard icc screen mounting wise. Does the hvac still work with the screen out or have you tucked it away somewhere? I am going to be tackling the 650e install this week or next so will need to wire the head unit and hopefully steering wheel controls too. Any chance you have a resource for the wiring colours from the stock harness to alpine at all?

Is how I got the steering wheel controls working, kmx with his alpine used something different that he probably didnt need to.

 

Its a basic resistive circuit and works great.

 

To quote myself

I also got the steering wheel controls working, it was a bit backwards but you have to complete the circuit on steering wheel controls getting power from the headunit on key 1 or key 2 and ground the other pin.

 

So 1204 to key 1 and 729 to ground. “

 

 

The headunits then typically have an app where you program what resistance for what function. Its simply a matter of pressing a steering wheel button and associating that with play slips volume up down etc. pretty straight forward.

I’m in the process of locating the top ford icc display to the lower pocket and not disconnecting the main icc harness at all. I hope to get the display to the rear of the pocket area and mount the front section of the clip in pocket back in. Soooooooo a casual look at my fg will see just a normal area in front of the shifter with the cig socket and aux still there, but a display that is visible though the the ‘gaps’...........maybe 🤔

Mock up of what I'm hoping for. Will dremel the tissue box so its a top cover and side cover only to tidy things up

Definetly just waiting for mk2 facia and alpine to arrive then see how things go

Sorry but the unit I have installed is the discontinued Alpine ILX-007, which is the ‘father’ of the w650

looking at the dimensions the ilx007 is 178×100×75

 

Ilxw650e is 178x100x60 so should be identical fitments wise with more room at the rear
