February 21, 200422 yr #1 Guys and Gals,reading an article in today's paper...resale value after 12 months for certain cars:XR6T - 85%Nissan 200SX - 82%Mazda 323 Protege - 83%Merc C200 - 87%Land Rover Disc. - 76%So, not too bad, on level ground with the Merc c200 I would say!!!well doneChris
February 22, 200422 yr #2 Its nothing like that in the real world. It may have been in the first 10 months when there was a waiting list but now the resale values are returning to a more normal level you would expect from a Falcon. A few guys I work with were making money on them trading them in after six months because of the employee discount but now they are starting to pay a few hundred for change over.

Yeah agree mate. When we sold our 9 month old T we got back around 80%, we struggled to get good money for the car even though people were waiting 3 months plus back then.Wonder how these resale figures were determined?
February 22, 200422 yr #5 13 months old stock sedan .... 66% as a trade in ... could not sell it for jack :( and that was only last month ... there is no second hand market as for getting money for your options ... forget it
February 22, 200422 yr #6 Agreed.I was out shopping for a second hand XR6T. The prices were too high for me. $45k for a 1 yr old car, 20,000k's on the clock. So I bought a new one.
February 22, 200422 yr #7 Author Yeah, well, I guess it would be interesting to know how they print this stuff...what are their sources and what figures are they looking at? eh!
February 22, 200422 yr #9 13 months old stock sedan .... 66% as a trade in ... could not sell it for jack :( and that was only last month ... there is no second hand market as for getting money for your options ... forget it Maybe they are talking private sale, we all know dealers give you f/a for trade or if you do manage to jag a good trade-in price, the car you are buying must have an inflated sale price to begin with.A XR6T would be a risky proposition to buy s/h privately, primarily due to lack of warranty. To be fair this would apply to most performance type cars such as XR8/FPV and SS/HSV. The other thing is most XR6Ts would be under some sort of finance arrangement which also ads complications.Different localities would probably have a bearing on prices too. Probably get the worst trade-in figure in Geelong and maybe a better one in a remoter (as in remote from Melbourne) location such as Perth, Darwin or FNQ.
