Sump removal

Hi, I'm new on this site....so bear with me pls...trying to get the sump off my ba xr6 turbo motor! I have engine out. I've removed all the bolts on the side of the pan, and all the smaller bolts around the pan. The front half of the pan has come away with no problem. but it's still caught up pretty tight at the back. for the life of me I cannot find anymore nuts and bolts to undo? are there any behind the flywheel somewhere? PLEASE HELP.....IM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!

Have you removed the two bolts that are buried down either side of the rear main seal

Don't know what happened here, the bit I put in disappeared was supposed to be pic of sump bolts!

No.....so I have to have the clutch and flywheel off the motor to get to them??

No you can access them from underneath

I think from memory fly can stay on, should be able to see them there are cutouts at the back on the flat part if that makes sense!

so the side bolts to the sump the maincap bolts which hold the sump mine seem to be weaping leaking a fair bit of oil I just put this engine in had sump off though

 

is gasket goo needed to create a better seal ?

 

I ask as I didn't think any would have been needed

Yes, gasket goo / thread sealer is required. Make sure everything is clean clean clean to give the sealer the best chance of success.

Yes you have to use a generous amount around the captured washer that is on the bolt. This is specified in the engine torque settings in the workshop manual.
