Had a look underneath and the rear is sitting on the bump stops. Is that bad to be riding on bump stops? Should I take the bump stops off completely? any opinions would be muchly appreciated. Cheers.

Maybe they should be cut at the next knuckle from that or completely remove them?

That is the opposite to what you actually want for longevity with a bit of power. Surprised you haven't had a bolt snap with that setup! Don't think that "pre load" theory is correct either... first I've heard of that!
