April 3, 201511 yr #12 Does it have clutch pack clearances etc? Can't say it does from memory, but it is a very comprehensive breakdownAre the clutches the main "flogging out" point or are there other things that tend to wear? Edited April 3, 201511 yr by FiftyOne
April 4, 201511 yr #13 clutches are the main thing that wears in most boxes, clearance is one of the main things that will influence what the box will shift like, we have done boxes but our ZF programme is still in R&D
April 6, 201511 yr #14 Author I looked on CMS' website and they recommend no zf tune and also dont modify the valve body ... but what about shot peened and cryo treated shafts are they really going to be strong enough ?
April 7, 201511 yr #16 Yeah the CMS website is a bit out of date with their ZF build page. They can now offer exedy clutches and billet input shaft. Give Joe a ring and he'll talk you through it.
April 7, 201511 yr #17 Author I spoke to joe and he had heaps of time for me! I was very impressed he would spend that much time talking to a total stranger... I need to save some money ......
June 16, 201511 yr #18 Here is some good info on rebuilding them.http://5series.net/forums/e60-discussion-2/rebuilding-6hp26-trans-soon-550i-133421/http://www.scribd.com/doc/20322431/Repair-Manualhttp://www.rangerovers.net/forum/6-range-rover-mark-iii-l322/44034-zf-6hp26-teardown.htmlhttp://www.thectsc.com/catalog/6hp26/28/32-8.html
June 16, 201511 yr #19 Now what I really have been wondering, Automatic boxes are very complicated machines, I have pulled many apart. So I'd be very careful over who I let rebuild the box unless they have every single factory spec like clearances etc that ratter mentionedI just don't see how every single workshop can be offering ZF Rebuilds themselves, I would only have an Auto trans shop do it.
