Braided Clutch Lines

Featured Replies

Hey People, as I've read on this forum as quite a common problem, the clutch fluid on our cars turns disgustingly black after a very short period of time. I have seen some people say this is because of it's proximity to the exhaust and the turbo, and it's the heat that burns it.

If this is true, has anyone come up to a solution for this? Are there any braided lines to suit this application that anyone knows of? I'm thinking of getting mine flushed very soon but wouldn't mind resolving this issue at the same time as preventative maintenance if it's easy enough!

Cheers.

I had a brake shop custom make one for me but I think Mal Wood has a part for it on the shelf too, maybe try getting in contact with them

Thanks mate - just found them on his website. $175..... 0_0

How much did your custom ones set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Pretty sure it was more than that at the time. Mal was only doing the bleed line back then and I had the local shop make both for me. Just the one from the master to the slave was around $80 though I did get trade pricing on it.

Just replaced the flexible hose on my clutch line for a braided section.

Local brake mob did it for $79.

Also put some heat insulation on the new line.

Ls1 cars have the same issue too so I doubt it's caused by heat from the turbo.

I remember reading it was clutch dust entering through seals in the concentric slave cylinder. I have no idea how true that is though.

I do know I have braided clutch lines and remote bleeder on my t56 Clubsport and the fluid still turns black...

The factory clutch line had insulation on the flexible hose which is behind the turbo.

I just did what the factory did.

Simples!!!

^this guy is right. Clutch dust is drawn into the csc.

Add a clutch bleed to your regular service routine.

Remote bleeder is definitely worthwhile if you are ever going to have the box out.

Makes bleeding SO much easier.

Vx*r8 is right ls1 cars do suffer from the same issue. On my vxss I used to suck out the clutch fluid with a large syringe, wipe out the reservoir with a rag and top up with new fluid every few weeks.Keeps the fluid nice and fresh.
