June 15, 201412 yr #1 Hi I have a 2004 xr6t 4sp auto just swaped it for my 2003 na and he said the diff bushes need replacing but driving home I noticed that the diff whines all the time although doesn't seem to get worse when speeding up or when boost comes on just wondering if anyone has had problem befor or can tell me more. Also gearbox sometimes changing gears will make a short of rubbing noise and carnt seem to pin point it is gear box on way out a mate thourt it might need the box bands tightening or drive shaft barring any help will be much appreciated as it is my first xr turboand gearbox sometimes changing gears will make a short of rubbing noise and carnt seem to pin point it is gear box on way out a mate thourt it might need the box bands tightening or drive shaft barring any help will be much appreciated as it is my first xr turbo
June 15, 201412 yr #2 More solid bushes won't make the diff whine, but if you're diff is stuffed it will whine anyway and firmer bushes will accentuate it.
June 15, 201412 yr #3 Author Ok so diff is on its way out then I'm guessing would it be Cheeper to rebuild or just buy new one and wouldn't know anything bout my other problem?
June 15, 201412 yr #4 Not sure about the other problem sorry mate. I'm sure someone else will be along to potentially shed some light on it. Diff options depend on what your plans are for the car in the future. If you plan on modding it and want something bulletproof you can rebuild it with a TrueTrac LSD and new seals etc for around the $2,200 mark. The TrueTrac is a helical gear LSD, so relatively maintenance free, just change the oil every now and then. My Ford diff whined like a bitch but the TrueTrac had none whatsoever. I had one in my previous XR6T and they hook up like a mofo! Was awesome. A big chunk of the cost to rebuild or replace the diff is dropping the IRS cradle, so I figured it was more cost effective to upgrade the diff while it was out. The actual TrueTrac itself is around $1,300.
June 16, 201412 yr #5 I replaced my diff with a recoed one on my ba xr6t sedan, also at same time did 3 diff bushs with super pro. at 80ish kph if I lightly accelerate there a kinda whine from the rear end area (mite be center bearing) but if im accelerate quick to 100 theres no whine, only at that speed (80 kph lightly acccelerating)does it sound like diff? either way if it is diff it wont blow up haha I hope
June 16, 201412 yr #6 Firmer brushes result in more NVH, but helps with axle tramp. Choose your poison. Ford quite obviously cbf refining things when the cheap easy fix is soft rubber bushes. I did see a cradle once that had some bracket welded on it to solid mount the diff. Can only imagine how that would sound. Edited June 16, 201412 yr by barnz
June 16, 201412 yr #7 My ba has quite a loud whine @ 70pkh and between 90 and 100kph.I'm running superpro comp spec diff mounting bushes. The whine is only audible since fitting them. There is also an increase in drive live clunks. As Barnz has stated ford use the custard bushes to hide all manner of sins.
June 16, 201412 yr #8 Author Cheers guys (jas) ya I'm pritty sure it's diff wine but buy the experience u guys have had mabey just need oil in diff cause it doesn't get worse when accelerating and is constant the hole way throu rev range it's weird if had stuffed duffs befor and the get worse when accelerating but ya might do diff oil change see if it helps. And the bushes are next its going in for a gearbox service on Thursday and there goin to haves good look at it make sure there's nothing in there that shouldn't be and just a general look over engain service ill do myself not that hard only other thing I've notice some times in 3rd when hitting boost it's like its starving for fuel so think fuel pump might be on way out. But I'm not to concerned bout putting bit of money in as I swap it for a n/a 2003 I think the bloke I got it off just didn't really maintain it very well.
June 16, 201412 yr #9 I can only think of 1 reason you would swap a T for an N/A instead of selling and buying again.
June 16, 201412 yr #10 Author Hahaha ya and a 2011 crf250 fuel consumption was his main concern my na got 700 ks to a tank with a turbo snorkel and bf twin exhuast 100 cell high flow cat plus rego till April next year full tank range on the tee when I filled it up was 570 and there's no way I'll get that out of it if Your boosting everywhere and him having to drive 150 ks a day for work was killing him and rego due in September but like I said I don't mined spending a bit of coin to get it were I want it but the bike sweetens the deal and the bike has sat in shed for a year not bein riddin with work I just didn't have time to
