I'm wondering is it common for Ford 4L Turbos to skip teeth, and when it happens is it usually only 1/2 Teeth or more?

Does this normally not cause any damage but could it cause damage under high revs when all the components are moving extremely fast if the valve may just not retract fast enough ?

as mentioned previously, we have have seen it quite a few times, enough that it's one of the first things we now check when an owner says they have problems, most skip 1 tooth, many have jumped 2 and one we saw had jumped 3 and would cause the engine light to come on

Ford today called and tried the second hand engine idea WTF! I politely suggested that they need to fix it properly and they said they would get back to me by Wednesday.
