Hey all,

I went to leave work the other day but the car wouldn't start. I'd noticed that it had been getting gradually harder and harder to start over the past few weeks but this time it did nothing.

I checked the battery terminals, fluid levels etc but I still had no luck. I finished work about 5 minutes before the local mechanics closed so I raced over with the old battery.

Long story, short - They checked the battery and said it was pretty much shagged so I bought a new one as a replacement. Drove home pretty well but it kept wanting to bottom out when I stopped - Not in the way it does with a TB issue as I've had that before. It just pulled up like it was really fighting against itself to go. Feels much worse than usual...

I'm guessing it's the alternator as it's really the only other thing I can figure out...

It's going into XFT on Thursday but my main concern is how do I get it there? If the battery isn't charging while the car is going, will I make a 30 odd minute drive? Even if I charge the battery right up before I go?

Is there a way to test the alternator so I at least know? Any idea's what an alternator would cost me?

Sorry about the 'all-over-the-place' question guys.

Cheers,

Dan

If the battery light isnt on chances are alternator is fine, when you have the battery disconnected the KAM (keep alive memory) is reset in the ecu. If the throttle body is dirty this can cause stalling as the ecu needs a clean throttle body to re learn its idle strategies etc.. Try giving it a clean and resetting the kam again. May or may not fix it

If your battery is not charging you should get 30 min out of a fully charged battery, (from my personal experience) but if your voltage drops too low, your tranny could stop shifting etc...

This has happened on by BF, when I let the leaking power steering problem go on for too long...it destroyed the alternator...car started acting funny...as in the radio would turn itself off, and then before it pretty much stalled on me, the ZF tranny stopped shifting...

Though I think the battery light might have come on, so if your not getting the battery light come on...it could be somthing else.

Can be fixed using a semi-constant decombobulator..

But only on a Wednesday..
