Hey guys. I know everyone loves the plazmaman/process west surge tanks and ideally I'd love one too but I have been given a different option. Ok so bit of background. I currently have an FG at 300rwkw but it is in the shop atm hopefully giving me the extra 20 or so to max out the turbo. I'm aware that a surge tank at these levels while not critical is still a good idea and with my plans to push out more power soon then a surge tank was always on the agenda.

The dilemma I have is that I have a mate with a custom built surge tank in his 32 skyline that he will give me for nothing. It was expensive for him to get made up and it has all speed flow fittings as well as the 044 pump. So here are the following questions.

How much work will there be in converting this to the FG setup?

Being a larger 2.5L setup it will have to be in the boot so will I get constant fuel smell as well as noise?

Is it easy to convert a 1 pump setup to a 2 pump setup later on?

Will the current fuel lines be enough for the flow both with 1 pump and 2?

Thanks to all those that take the time to answer. I appreciate it.

Cheers Ben

Not much if you are putting it in your boot.

Being a larger 2.5L setup it will have to be in the boot so will I get constant fuel smell as well as noise?

You will get noise, fuel smell should be ok if it is ll set up ok, don't know if it is legal or not

Is it easy to convert a 1 pump setup to a 2 pump setup later on?

Yep, just need another hosetail cut and shut into the surge tank

Will the current fuel lines be enough for the flow both with 1 pump and 2?

1 fuel pump yes

2 fuel pumps is for when you go bigger turbo/ethanol, at that stage you will probably run braided lines and a new fuel rail.

I advise you sell you mates setup, split the cash and buy and install the correct process west surge. That way its under the car not in the boot (totally out of site) and will plumb in perfect.

I agree with everything sideways but....

Make sure you use screw fittings not push on fittings, the last thing you want is a leak or loose fitting in your boot.

Will the current fuel lines be enough for the flow both with 1 pump?

1 fuel pump, not sure maybe something for you to research or someone might give you the answer on here...because its a longer run from the boot to fuel rail it might not be able to keep pressure up when you start to push up near 380kw??? and I am pretty sure from a pw surge tank they use a fatter fuel line from surge tank up to fuel rail??? Im no mechanic just maybe things to look into.

You could always get one made up to fit up front where the process west one sits. You already have most of the bits and the fuel snap-on fittings are readily available. I saw a nice one on here somewhere where someone got the bits laser cut and welded together after some careful planning and it cost them bugger all and it was an awesome job. Having it up front will also be easier if you intend to add a relay and power supply.

Or you could buy one of the mint looking PW ones.

I don't think I would like one in the boot for safety and insurance reasons.

I have the Plazmaman one and it's great, I like the sound but would not want it in the boot.. It's loud but from inside I can not hear it.

Well looking at getting a surge tank but $1000 that's a lot of money when guys are selling them on ebay for $300 big diff

Its more what they save you than what they cost you Pete. $1000 worth of surge tank could be the difference between you blowing your engine or not, and we all know that gets very expensive. I think the price is high too, but it is all relative. IF you have spent $10000 on your car to get it to XXXkw what is another $1000 for piece of mind?

Don't think that's what he meant, just another example of XRT owners paying way more for parts then other clubs.

Surely it wouldn't cost $600 for lines and to fit it?
