Where does the paper bag fit in to the scheme of things?

Also I'm a fair noob so what's the gold thing? looks like it sits over the cylinders from the shape but I don't get the cutout part.

big gold thing is a girdle, keeps all the rotating bits from walking around

cutout part I'm going to assume is for oil pump assembly? I haven't really seen the bottom end of a Ford six naked.

Yeh its a main cap girdle to tie all caps together.. The cut out is to suit the sohc engine because the oil pump is in that position..
