Mark Skaife Calls For Speed Limit To Be Lifted To 140Km/H

A lot of our roads are rubbish but there are several sections that are as good if not better than some of the roads in Germany that have higher speed limits.

One thing Germany has got right is that they set the speed limit for each section of the highway rather than the whole highway as we do. They also keep out of the overtaking lane when not overtaking, I wish that was enforced here.

All the talk seems to be about raising the speed limit, how about the driver education that he is talking about? If something was done about that, it wouldn't be so bad on our roads, even if it was still 100km/h.

Since he went to Germany for his research, I would guess that he noticed that the 140 and 130 zones that they have on the autobahns flowed well and would be easier for most Australians to transition to.

So be it but it would have to be incremental 120, 130, etc.

I agree with you so besides speed traps why do we have speed zones in nsw that jump from from 50kph to 100kph

They did a bit of a follow-up last night, like I'd guessed last week the wider media would take the story as raising the speed limit and ignore everything else. What a huge surprise that was.

...and finished the story with "on our website are the contact details for every road minister in the country, I'm sure they'd love to hear from you" :beerchug:

yeah I agree with him completely, seemed to me he had won most the points compared to the other guy. and I know for a fact that driving a tad faster does keep you more focused, with all these 90km zones these days, its painful and fatiguing. I think that's a good plan about offering a rebate on newer cars, however I think they could build on that and offer a higher ammount rebate on an australian built car compared to a foreign one (would help our acconomy I think!).

lastly.... test people over the age of 65 - 70 every 2 years on road rules and a practical driving test!!!!!!!
