Should I Come Back And Buy A Xr6T

Hi everyone,

Long Story short

- Previously owned a BA MK2 with the 6sp Manual and had that modified to 350rwkw.

- Currently drive a Nissan 370Z

- Girlfriend is pregnant so the 370Z must go as its only a 2 seater

Should I comeback to a ford. I would be looking at a 2nd hand FG XR6T with the 6spd Auto and I cannot rule out that I would modify it

The only concern I have is regarding driveline problems, as I cannot stand any driveline shunt, diff clunk etc.

I know the FG are more reliable than the earlier models, but I have been readiong some posts of 6spd auto problems and clucnking at low speeds.

Can anyone provide any advise, I know it may be a bit biased but would appreciate honest opinions even if it means fessing up that you have this problem but are just in denial about it

Is it a case of you either have the problem or don't? As in all I have to do is test drive one and if there are no noises I should be safe?

I had slight clunking at 28,000kms - new diff bush fixed this (although I realise it will keep braking).

I had no clunk from the ZF, except when cold it would vibrate a little going from 3rd to 4th when cold under minimal load. it was probably an oil level issue as since getting serviced (new oil, filter/pan) it is like new.

Dominellos said they do all sorts of funny things when the level isn't right.

And would you say the clunking due to diff bush is because of the extra stress from your car being modified? Or are there stock ones with clunk problem too, just like that Jag owner

mine was stock when it shat the bush.

I've had 5 B-Series. 3 6M's and 2 ZF BF's. All have had driveline clunk.

I've driven a few manual 370Z and they have serious driveline noises, they make the FG seem deadly silent and smooth.

In fact I have an Auto 370Z convertible tonight, I'll let you know how it compares..

But go drive one, you'll def. fall in love .

Why not buy a V35 Skyline sedan?

Basically the same car you have but with 4 doors.

I was in the same boat as you about 12 months ago when my Missus got pregnant

and the old R32 Skyline wasnt exactly suitable for a baby seat.

I was looking at either a Toyota Chaser, Toyota Aristo, V35 Skyline 4 door,

Mitsubishi Legnum, or an EVO 7-9........

Clearly im a fan of imports but my current car became available from a workmate

at a price I couldnt refuse, Having said that I regularly wish I had of got something that

also Brakes and handles instead of just making power. (but you already owned a XR6T so you can make your own mind up there)

Mines a ZF 6 speed and I dont find the driveline to be an issue.

I'm considering the new Mazda 3 mps. I think they are a great little package and look really good compared to the first gen.

But then part of me wants the xr6t. I would slap

some brembos on it and fpv wheels and be happy. But just concerned about driveline clunks and diff issues. As I know I will probably end up modifying as I know the potential.

I have an FG manual, there is plenty of shunt in 1st gear!!
